If you're willing to put a gun to your own head like he did, you deserve to die.

I don't carry a gun to look for or start a fight. I carry one to finish a fight I never wanted to be in.
Wow....Darwin wins again. Can't even call it sad. More like....well, I feel no sorrow.
Horrible, another example of stupidity with guns.... sad really.
it would not have happened if he carried unchambered
or if he was not breaking every rule including that of commen sense.

stupid should hurt.
i see a man stand on the railing of the GWB and he jumps to his death.

still looking for the formerally advertised "Carry UnChambered Forum" ... anybody have any info?
[QUOTE=claude clay;1966448]it would not have happened if he carried unchambered
This story had nothing to do with carrying chambered or not.
He was showing off the safety features of his pistol, dry-fired, then racked the slide, chambered a round, put the gun to his head and pulled the trigger-notice he forgot to engage the safety before pulling the trigger.

Having worked in a gun shop, I've looked down enough barrels to last me a lifetime. I, too, avoid looking down the barrel of anything, though I've had to do so a couple of times (checking the bore on long guns - action open, cleared, and a flashlight inserted into it). Makes the hair on my neck stand up, every time.
Even my 11-year-old knows - "Guns are ALWAYS loaded. Even when they're not."
Sad for this man's family, though.
Self cleaning oven in action. The only barrel I'll look down is the pickle barrel.
#1 safety is between your ears. But when that safety fails, well, you know what can happen.

I own several firearms and I've cleaned guns over a thousand times in my life, even after cleaning a gun and checking the chamber and or cylinder will my survival skills allow me to point a gun at myself

Nothing good happens after the words "Hey watch this!"
It's funny, I get nervous looking down the barrels of my guns when I'm finishing up cleaning them. This is with the gun partially/fully disassembled so I can clean them safely too.
While I feel nothing for the young guy who killed himself, I do feel sadness for his family though. They are the ones who have to suffer due to the stupidity of their family member.
Stupid can be cured. However, it's usually permanent.

"Johnson says Butler apparently failed to re-engage the safety."
Well, he did give a real life and death demonstration on safety. Geez..... too bad really.
Didn't engage the brain first, which is the biggest 'safety' feature with any gun.

I've got a wood dowel that I use to clear my guns. I drop the magazine, lock the slide open, and drop the dowel down the bore. If it goes all the way through, the gun is clear. Only then, will I look down a barrel to inspect a bore. Neither of my Sigs have external safeties anyway. I'm supposed to be the safety.
