My Uncle Died
Didn't know if I really wanted to post this or not.
My uncle (mom's oldest brother) died on Easter Sunday. Found out when me and the wife went there for dinner after church, someone had phoned my mom to tell her. I had not been around him in many years. He was an alcoholic and most of the family had little to do with him, but he was still my "Uncle Sonny", and I do have some good memories of him from way back.
I don't believe it's guilt I feel because I had not been around him in years, it's just a sad thing to see your family grow older and then die.
As we say in our church, "may the souls of the departed find eternal rest." I hope Sonny finds that.

Sorry to hear this, but I understand what you are talking about. As you age and brothers and sisters begin passing, age really hits home.

I understand exactly what you are going through, my best friend was an alcoholic and died with no explanation kids could understand. Now my BIL who was a full professor, published in Sky and Telescope, is a rampant drunk who has been taken in by another BIL.
Sad.

It's always sad when we lose a family member. No matter their choices they are still family. I'll be praying for you.

Sorry for your loss. Take solace that his torment is over. Remember the good times shared.

JoJo,
Although we don't know each other, my heart goes out to you.
I'm 62 and have had more than my share of family members (close and estranged) pass on to what I hope is a better place. And this doesn't even count the guys I had to leave behind in Nam.
Unfortunately, you're correct that as you age, both friends and family leave us, but our lives have to continue. It's been mentioned to look at the good times spent with the departed, but more importantly, none of the memories would exist if that person was never born.
I was brought up as a Jew, but as I see more and more senseless death (read the news) I really am starting to wonder if this is what God really planned for us. Kind of a sad commentary on all forms of religion and our (mine) belief in God.
Stay strong, and don't let guilt even enter your thoughts.
Wigh great saddness,
Bruce
