Been there before... Sorry for your loss.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here,
that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can
    run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm
    and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and
vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they
each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly
stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager
body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the
green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally
meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the
beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your
pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

It wouldn't hurt so much if they hadn't brought us so much joy

    My deepest sympathy.

I lost my Spenser (<==) last september, at the tender age of 16 1/2.
I have enough stories tucked away to last me the rest of my life, but I miss him every day.

The ones before and the two living with us now offer their own unique forms of joy, but no one ever truly replaces another.

Whatever souls are made of, theirs and mine are the same. They all leave pawprints on our hearts. Deepest condolences.

Jon, truly sorry for your loss. It is so hard, the decision and all, I have been there more times than I will say, but I know how you feel. I used to say that my Beagle Benson wasn't a dog, but rather a "little man in a furry suit"...he passed 6/13/2003....some things you quite never think you can get over, but you do. I will shed a tear for Max today and raise a little toast with our 5 guys at home here in Florida! Cheers!

Ouch, that hurts. He has expressive eyes, like my best friend, Hershey, a Chocolate Lab/Springer Spaniel mix who passed in 2003. The third time in my life I had to do that deed, and it gets harder every time.

One day, you'll be running in open fields with him again! Treasure the memories.
