From an optimistic standpoint, and also to the best of my knowledge, cancerous tumors are painless. I know for a fact, that testicular cancer is painless.

My question is, How old are you??? When my older brother, me, and a few of my friends hit puberty, we all got the lumps under the nips. They hurt like hell, and take years to go away.

Either way, it's scary none the less. Best of luck.

    age of 40 and change.
From what I've read, pain can be there because of proximity to the other "items" in the area. http://www.breastcancer.org/male_bc_symptoms.html

But, I do hope your right. Sorry about your cancer.

Wow - I've never heard of breast cancer in men. I hope it's just a minor infection that can be treated swiftly.

Best of luck to you . let us know how things progress . I understand that breast cancer kills quite a fiew men who are in denial that it happens to males , good on you for getting checked , and the wife says NOT to carry for the mamogram since you will want to shoot the tech before they are done .
Make sure you get full value out of today , Do something worthwhile, because what you do today will cost you one day off the rest of your life .

Ok, just got back from the hospital.
    short version, wait and see.
Long version, They did the mammogram on both breasts, then we sat and waited forever, they had to have them reviewed by a doc to make sure the pictures were ok and nothing looked bad. Well, the doc looked and must not have liked what he saw so he ordered a ultrasound to be done asap, which meant then and there. The ultrasound took forever to read also, but then a doctor came in and said that it looks ok for now, possibly an infection, not looking like cancer tho. Wants me to come back in 6 months for another mammogram and if needed ultrasound, and to have my normal doc keep poking at it to check for growth or shrinkage.

I will continue to take the antibiotics and hopfully that will take care of it in short order.

Thanks again for the kind words and thoughts, but most importantly guys, and gals, be mindfull of your body and what it is telling you with aches and pains and lumps. It is better to go to the doctor and be told it's nothing, then to goto the doctor and have him make you start paying your bill before he sees you.

Sounds like good news that it might just be a infection

I musta missed this post last night, but glad all seems to be well with you. I had heard about men having breast cancer some time ago, but thought it was very rare. Apparantly not and certainly good information to have, if not one more thing to worry about. I'm with QK, I hope you have an infection, too, as weird as that sounds....

I didn't read through all the posts, my apologizes for that.

This is what I love about CC, the way that everyone pulled together and the fact that this gentlmen was allowed to post his topic.

Breast cancer is not just a womens thing, it is a mans also. It is something that we need to be aware of.

Men may be from Mars and women from Venus, but cancer doesn't give a hoot and will attack each equallly.

I didn't know a guy could get breast cancer until Montel Williams went public about his having it. Thanks to you, maybe more men will check their bodies and find it early, if it's there. Praise to you!

Richard Roundtree of "Shaft" fame. Had it also, went through treatment, speaks about it to mens groups now.

Tec, the best thing you did was getting to the doctor as soon as you noticed something. Wonderfull to hear it seems like nothing.

Glad things seem cool tec! I read this when you posted but out of superstition I kept quite until you posted the news.

I am not sure or not if you were actually told anything or not? seems to me they really don't know. My opinion is get another opinion and to not wait 6 months for an answer as to what you have. I'd find another specialist and go again soon, doctors are human maybe another one with see something different and can give you a better answer. That wait and see crap I just don't get.
