    The Joy of 9/11

...1985 that is. Our youngest son has a birthday tomorrow.

His 16th birthday was a pretty glum day. Dinner and the cake was a somber event and then we adjourned to prayer service at Church.

Does this Nation remember? Really remember? How far would a new "Moslem center" have gotten with a proposal to locate itself at the edge of Ground Zero back on say... September 12, 2001?

Meanwhile our son is playing toys somewhere in the Pacific for his birthday this year courtesy the USMC. He sent a couple of recent photos taken just before he left.

After college and with high test scores he could have done anything the Marine Corps offers but he chose to enlist and become a machine gunner. Its hard on parents but we are proud of him.

Happy Birthday, from Mom and Dad!

To the Marine: Happy Birthday, Godspeed and Stay Safe.
To The Parents: You have every right to be proud. It looks like you raised a good one.
To all those with family in the service: People will say don't worry they'll be fine. As hard as you try not to worry there is always a little worry there. It is only natural. We worry about the ones we love no matter where they are or what they do. How could we not? You are not alone. Many of us who do not have family in the service still worry for and with those who do. We pray that their sacrifice is only in time but know some sacrifice more. God bless you and your famlies.

Quite a twist looking at 9/11. A positive one no doubt.
    Remember?
    Are you kidding?
'Patriot day' is what's listed on the calendar.
    Many won't remember.
May God bless our US Marines!
I'm one of those who does remember.
As a parent of a service member.............I thank you for your service!
It's hard no doubt. Being proud of your son will bring him home.
Personally.........I need a name to wish a happy birthday.
Take that from a former US Marine and a parent of two in service now.

If he makes a port call in Waikiki I'll buy him a birthday beer, even us 0311's have to give grudging respect to the 0331's, as they always have our backs.

I'm a few months older than your son, but this:
After college and with high test scores he could have done anything the Marine Corps offers but he chose to enlist and become a machine gunner. Its hard on parents but we are proud of him.
, if you change machine gunner with rifleman, is about the exact same thing either of my folks would say. Congrats to you and your wife on raising a fine son, and thank you for the sacrifices you make on a daily basis because of how you raised him. My mom is a "2 blue star" mother, and I think she has it the hardest of any of us. May his rounds find their target, and his barrel stay cool.
