    Patriot Riders

I took off at 5 AM to join up with this group and ride 85 miles each way to Zapata Tx,and escort PFC Ira B. Laningham to his final resting place in the Mission Tx Veterans Cemetary.Ira was only 22 YOA and had been married 3 months to another soldier.I was amazed at the response from every community we rode thru,Procession was led by Vehicles from Zapata County ,Starr County,Hidalgo County,US Border Patrol, and the route protected by Traffic Control along the entire route.Every School and business along the route turned out to show their support, and even work crews stopped and stood with hands over their hearts. This really brought the war a lot closer to home and a lot of the Vets were pretty red eyed and I had to choke down the emotions I was feeling. This soldier died defending us and he died way too young,Freedom isn't free RIP PFC Ira (Ben) Laningham you will be missed

My son's good friend (SSgt) Andrew Bubacz died in Afghanistan on 11/12/10 on his 30th day incountry. Andrew's funeral procession was nearly two miles long enroute from the funeral home to Ft. Jackson's National Cemetery. We had over 30 Patriot Guard at the funeral home and escorting the procession. You couldn't ask for a more decent and honorable group of people. I had the chance to talk to a few of them and they were so humble and honored to be a part of his procession. The service was a toughie, but not nearly as much as hearing all those machines fire up and lead us up the road, US flags flying in the breeze. They are amazing...

I've ridden dozens of Patriot Guard Missions and still get choked up, yet I'm very proud to participate.

If you ever get a chance, you don't have to ride a motorcycle as there are support vehicles that carry the flags for the flag line and bring up the rear of the bike column as we head to the Pickup point, and then they head out to be at the Cemetary and again issue out the Flags.

I personally don't think I could ride with the Patriot Guard, I get choaked up when I go to DFW to see the troops off.

That didn't occur to me, since I don't have a bike anymore I never thought to check in to it.

You'll see the biggest, baddest bikers crying at these events. No shame there.

Yep, same here. However, what choked me up the most was one day .... we rode in a parade for Vets.... and numerous relatives of fallen soldiers were coming up to us and "thanking" us..... and after numerous people, it was becoming difficult. So many.... effected.

    Me, too, on all counts.

It is truly an honor to be asked to stand for our service members, and it is one of the most humbling - and rewarding - things I have ever done.

As noted by others, it doesn't matter if you drive, ride, bicycle or walk to a mission. If you're there with respect in your heart to stand for our armed forces, you're always welcome.

We have had 2 missions in NC this week for young ladies. I don't know why but those seem to tear me up much more.
