Gunny and MsGunny,
I'm very sorry for your loss. I've had many furry friends make that same journey. Just know where he is now the Pheasant roosters are cackling and it's always hunting season. There is a special place in heaven for old bird dogs.

Hey buddy, very sorry for your loss. As a man who no doubt gets overly attached to my dogs, it's always been a hard emotional struggle for me when one of my beloved dogs pass away. Each time the emotions are just as intense as the previous because each dog has touched my life in a unique way.
Each dog is different even though I've tried to replace one with another exactly like the other. Yet the new dog always seems to find a unique way to grow on me to become just as special.
People say dogs don't go to heaven... I have to disagree.
Of all the animals the Lord created for us, I believe he has a special affinity towards dogs. It is because of that affinity, dogs have such an unconditional love and affection towards their humans. Some have even sacrificed their lives to protect us. Their loyalty, companionship, their ability to read our thoughts, ease our pain, and even heal us is something I just don't find in any of the other creatures the Lord put on earth. So, there is no doubt the Lord has a special place in heaven for our four legged friends like Gus.
Hang in there buddy.
