    My condolences on your loss.

10 years ago I lost both my parents, my grandmother, and my mother in law in less than 1 year. Thank God I had a wife and child to help me out during this time. You are blessed to have both.

Keep the faith. You will stumble along for a while but sooner or later you'll come out the other side.

Just got back from Italy late last night. The service was wonderful - just about the whole town came out. Had a procession from a small chapel in the square to the main church, then a mass, and then another procession to the cemetary. Everyone helped out in one way or another...great small town solidarity there.

Still working on tying up some loose ends, but the "business" aspect of settling her affairs are about over. Now on to the emotional issues, which will take much longer.

Again, thanks for the thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for the update. I'm glad you had good support from the community. I've been drawn close to people who've shown their true colors when I've lost a loved one. It's by God's Grace that good things can often come from tragic events. Ya'll will remain in my prayers.

Deep condolences. Part of my work involves some interaction with mental illness and medication. There is no simple answer and there is no silver bullet. Brain chemicals really do stop working, just like iron and thyroid and insulin. So, so sad.

I am sorry to find this thread so late, but your mother and your whole family will be in my prayers. I can only imagine the pain and questions a senseless action like this causes for the people who loved them. I lost my own mother to cancer. You mentioned your motherís religion in one of your posts. I have taught Catholic catechesis to deeply troubled and often suicidal people for the last ten years. It is clear from the facts you presented that your mother was mentally unable to reason in a normal way. This greatly mitigates any culpability she had in her suicide and I doubt that any religious authority would see her actions in this state as a serious impediment to her salvation. I would encourage you to regularly pray for the repose of your motherís soul and also for the hope that you and your family will someday be reunited again with her forever in Heaven with the peace she was unable to find in this world.

Yep. I was a small child when she started down her road of worsening mental illness. I don't ever remember her being "normal."

I hope we will meet again some day, and I can get to know the woman she was, without the veil of mental illness in the way.

Deepest condolences for the loss of your mother. You may not have known her "normal" self, but her love for you surely breaks all earthly bonds. May it be God's will that all the joyful memories survive the healing of time.
