You know you're a Floridian if....

    Socks are only for bowling.

You never use an umbrella because you know the rain will be over in five minutes.

A good parking place has nothing to do with distance from the store, but everything to do with shade.

Your winter coat is made of denim.

You can tell the difference between fire ant bites and mosquito bites.

You're younger than thirty but some of your friends are over 65.

Anything under 70 degrees is chilly.

    You've driven through Yeehaw Junction.

You know that no other grocery store can compare to Publix.

Every other house in your neighborhood had blue roofs in 2004-2005.

You know that anything under a Category 3 just isn't worth waking up for.

    You dread love bug season.

You are on a first name basis with the Hurricane list. They aren't Hurricane Charley or Hurricane Frances. You know them as Andrew, Charley, Frances, Ivan, Jeanne & Wilma...Irene...Cheryl...Rita Mary..Alison

You know what a snowbird is and when they'll leave.

You think a six-foot alligator is actually pretty average.

    'Down South' means Key West

Flip-flops are everyday wear. Shoes are for business meetings and church, but you HAVE worn flip flops to church before.

You have a drawer full of bathing suits, and one sweatshirt.

You get annoyed at the tourists who feed seagulls.

A mountain is any hill 100 feet above sea level.

You know the four seasons really are: Hurricane season, love bug season, tourist season and summer.

    You've hosted a hurricane party.

You can pronounce Okeechobee, Kissimmee , Withlacoochee , Thonotosassa and Micanopy.

You understand why it's better to have a friend with a boat, than have a boat yourself.

You were 25 when you first met someone who couldn't swim.

You've worn shorts and used the A/C on Christmas and New Years.

You recognize Miami-Dade as ' Northern Cuba '

Welcome to Florida, seriously. Always nice to have more gun friendly folks down here.
How far North of Clearwater? My dad lives in Pasco County, and I regularly shoot at a range in Port Richey, was just there yesterday in fact. Pinellas has a few good ranges, as does Hillsborough County, and if you're into trap and skeet Land O'Lakes has one of the nicest locations I've ever seen for shotgun fun.
I'm in favor of gun control -- I think every citizen should have control of a gun.

Congrats on your decision to move to FL.
I wish you the best on your new position.
One of these days we'll have to get a thread going to plan a lunch somewhere in Central Florida for DC'ers
We did it once before...several years back.

    Enjoy the weather...

I'll be working in Pasco County, so probably living in Pasco or southern part of Hernando County.

That would be great!!! I'll feel like a stranger in a strange land. A small town country hillbilly used to mountains and snow knowing everybody in a 30 mile radius going to hot flat lands with stuff spread out and knowing no one. My family will likely not be able to join me for a few months, so it will be difficult until we get settled.

Having lived in Mobile County Alabama (3 miles South of our house you'd be butt deep in the Gulf of Mexico) I can tell you in all honestly that most of those apply to just about anyone on the Gulf Coast. I was laughing out loud at those. You made my night!

eh...good luck. I lived in FL for a couple of years. The beaches were nice, but I couldn't stand the humidity enough to live there permanent. I had to come running back home to VA. Lol @ the palmetto bugs...PC terminology for giant flying roaches. What to say about Love bugs...2 seasons of having to clean your car's radiator and air filter all the time(late spring and late summer)... They don't taste good when they land in your drink at the beach. Don't pull two apart. You might feel... inadequate afterwards.

I've lived in the foothills of North Carolina, Central Kentucky, and Mountains of SW Virginia. This will be a dramatic change from any of those places, but I'll just have to adapt and overcome. Gotta go where the job is.

Good luck on the new job and new location Bugdude. I've got a cousin that lives in Palmetto, FL. Don't think that is so far from there. I used to live down in the Ft Walton Beach area. It has it's pluses and minus' just like any other place I reckon.
I hope the new position treats you well.

You'll have to shim up one of your shoes. Florida is real flat and you may tip over if you don't.

I have to add one more:

When Jim Cantore (Weather Channel) arrives in your town and starts unpacking, you know its time for you to start packing up and getting out!
