Wow. Thanks everyone. It is a literary book, so its not a fast-action shoot em up, but it is real, and hopefully, deep.

And yes, "Leaving the Land" and "The Limits of Mercy," books two and three in the "Ezra" series will be available before too long. I am currently working on book four in this series.

Another novel of mine, "The Land of Empty Houses" is available now. Not part of the Ezra series, it is set in Montana but during a post-apocalyptic time.

My agent says that during the three-day give-away program there were over 700 downloads which is pretty good seeing as the word only got out through forums like this and other word-of-mouth venues. I appreciate those of you who ventured to give it a try. And even though this novel has been published in print four times and reviewed extensively I am still always eager to hear your comments.

    I just finished it.
    It was a great read.
I'm normally a mystery and thriller reader, and not into westerns,
but I have to admit, I had a tear in my eye several times.
Montana can be a cruel master.
I'm not sure the ending left me fulfilled. Was he saved? I know he got out, but?
    I gave it 5 stars.

My experience mirrors yours and I will buy the other books in the Ezra series. I too gave it 5 stars!

Guns and more, just saw your review on the Kindle page. Thanks. I appreciate it. Dawei, I appreciate your remarks, too. Because people ask, let me say that book one was about about 60% autobiographical. The stampede of the cattle happened just as written. So did the high school bull ride. The blue roan horse existed and was exactly as portrayed. Book two is slightly less biographical and book three less so, yet.

Thanks, guys. If you are led to review it on Amazon, as Guns and more did, please do. I got one really bad review there that really knocked my rating down. The fellow evidently loved the book but hated the ending, which suggests he didn't understand the symbolism or that it is book one in a series. We're working on getting LEAVING THE LAND up. My apocalyptic novel -- not part of the Ezra series -- THE LAND OF EMPTY HOUSES, is available now. A quicker read than Ezra. I'm guess most of you will like book three in the Ezra series, THE LIMITS OF MERCY, the best. It is the most plot-driven of the three.

Thanks, Danny. I realize it's not a book for everyone. All my career people have told me to write like Louis L'Amour, but that's not who I am. I write to portray realistic people in realistic situations. When a person finishes THE BREAKING OF EZRA RILEY they will be able to say they understand what ranch life and cowboying in eastern Montana was like during the 1934-1984 time period. The next two books take you through the late 1980s and early 1990s and the fourth Ezra is current, set in 2012.
