    Where were you on 9/11/01?

Everybody knows what this day is known for in our nations history. We all see the news specials about it and about the people directly involved and who were witnesses to what happened that day.

Well, where were you and what were you doing that day when you got a phone call about it or all the TV stations and radio stations switched over to news networks.

I'll start. I was in high school. 9th grade, second period literature class with my teacher Ms. Hoover. The teacher on the other side of the wall had the morning news on and ran over to tell her to turn on the TV.
We sat there and watched for like 10 minutes as the news people were speculating what was going on and then we watched as the second plane hit. I instantly knew this was an act of evil. Got home that afternoon and every channel on TV was a news channel for the rest of the day.

I was asleep at my Fraternity house at UC Davis. One of my brother's woke me up, banging on my door and we watched in horror as the second tower fell. I remember the LA riots too, but I will never forget seeing that tower fall. It is a weird frustrating mix of infuriating rage, sadness helplessness and worry that I can not accurately express. I still get choked up when I see news, films, memorials etc of that day.

I was in Tech School for Precision Machining. I was out in the shop running a Bridgeport, and when I stopped to mic the part I noticed it was dead quiet and I was the only one in the room.

I walked across the shop to the classroom and my classmates were staring at the TV. I asked what was going on and someone said "Watching the news". I sat there for 3-4 minutes wondering when the "commercial for an action movie" would end and the news would start. About a minute after I realized that it WAS the news, the second plane hit.....

Was making coffee and had the Today show on and while Matt and Katie were babbling about something they were interrupted with a report that an airplane may have impacted the World Trade Center. A few minutes later they cut to a scene of the tower burning then the second airplane impacted. Finished getting ready for college while catching glimpses of further reports. Got to school and every TV in the halls were switched to CNN, not much else was discussed in class that day.

Mid-town Manhatten. Responded to the attack, and went back to work for two weeks.

6th grade, didn't find out til my parents picked me up and took me home. never fully understood exactly what was going on at that age and I wasn't as sad as I am when I think about it today... though my anger may be close... I wanted to carpet bomb Afghanistan ha

I guess I'm kinda lucky that I wasn't able to see all of it unfold and understand what was going on? sad as hell

damn it still gets me angry. going after civilians. what a bunch of cowards.

I was in school for the same exact thing that day but I was taking a blue print reading class at the time.

Was at work and heard on the radio a plane had hit one of the towers. A little while later when I was away from the radio, my boss called and said a second plane had hit. When I heard that it was obvious this was no accident and we were under attack.

Worked that previous night so I had been asleep for about an hour before getting a phone call about the first plane. Didn't sleep for a couple days after.

Just finished EMT class a month before and the instructor had us take a bunch of terrorism and WMD courses towards the end. :-/

Sophomore year of high school. Woke up that morning at 5:30 am PST because it was a private school 30 miles away, my dad would drop me off before going into work. Was eating breakfast and watching the news when the reports started coming in. We listened to the radio the entire way there, and when we got to school the majority of the day was spent watching the television. I remember doing very little actual schoolwork that day. School assembly in the middle of the day to have what was happening explained.

Up early watching the news feeds and working on line. Wife was on a flight and ended up in Atlanta. Semper Fi buddy gave her a dust off from Hartsfield curb = they kicked everyone out of the terminals.

Got her home by the end of the week on another buddy's flight wich was all flight crews repositioning across the US to start airline service back up.

Oblivious 'til I got to work on PDT and learned pres of company was in NY. Chinese/Vietnamese workmate flashed back to childhood in final days of war in Vietnam. Pres returned safe.

In my office with the door closed writing VB code for an accounting system for the group of our largest salesmen. I documented the event in the code which of course is no longer used since we sold the companies to Gannett. I came up for air and one of the clerks in our largest subsidiary said a plane had hit the World Trade Center. I ambled back over to my side of town and ended up in the CEO's office watching it on TV. Eventually one of the consultants we had on site found his way up as well. He was a Saudi and very uncomfortable even though we had no info at the time. Rather than renounce the acts outright all he said was this was not the way to go about doing things - no kidding.

I was flying down one of my consultants (who was also a good friend) down from Boston to prep for a customer's proof of concept. I spent the entire day thinking he was on that flight, until he finally returned my calls that evening and admitted that he was too hung-over to go anywhere that day.
