2 year old dead from self inflicted gun shot
An Officer I know in a city I used to live in, lost a son the other day. Both he and his wife were home at the time. It is still under investigation so there are very few details at this point.

It's so sad that this happened. Please, refrain from posts regarding negligence, training, vigilance etc. Sometimes, no matter what precautions you take, accidents happen.

My condolences to the family.
The incident was being treated as an accidental shooting, Taylor said. The weapon used in the shooting was a handgun but not the officer's service weapon, he said. Details about where the boy found the gun were part of the ongoing investigation. Taylor said Wednesday the boy found a gun "
that was just sitting there."
It does not specify in the article and is pure speculation on my part but the way that reads it almost sounds like it may have been found in the yard, a criminal’s throwdown possibly?

This same thing happened here about five years ago. Captain at local police department. There's never any substitute for basic safety. Nobody is above humanity. Lessons learned are always lessons too late.

I live three miles away... They said today it wasn't the officers duty weapon. Both he and his wife were home. with their other son. I can NOT imagine what it was like in that home for the first few minutes. We are all thinking..why? What the crap/// secure you weapon...etc. etc. I'm just thinking for now..there , but for the Grace of God. Heartfelt prayers and condolence from me. God bless this family.

Some choices are irrevocable. Some results can seem unbearable, at least for a long while.
