Monday last week, I got the call that my Mom had passed away, She lost her battle with Amyloidosis, It’s a rare disease that is being diagnosed in 8 / 1 Million people. She wasn’t diagnosed until three months ago. The battle began close to three years ago.
Amyloidosis is hard to diagnosis due to it not having any symptoms of it’s own. It attacks a specific organ, or system, and the indications are what you would commonly see with the failure of that organ. In her case, it attacked her Heart, Kidneys and Lungs all at once.
For the ones you Love:
If they are facing a serious illness and the conventional treatments don’t seem to be helping, get a second opinion, and a third or forth if necessary, It may just be an underlying cause. I have to believe that just like a lot of other diseases out there, as it becomes more well known, the number of cases diagnosed will increase dramatically, and everyone will step back in awe of this brand new disease that just came out of nowhere.
Here is the link to the one site that is working hard to make more and more people aware if this disease, It’s run by a survivor of Amyloidosis.

My sister works in the ER at a local hospital, and she nor any of the doctors there had heard of it. Of my mom’s half dozen specialist, only one had heard of it, and he didn’t realize that is what was the problem. It took a CDC type of specialist to figure it out. He only came in as a favor to her Heart specialist.
Hopefully no one here is facing something like this, or will have to in the future, but maybe this thread will stick with them and help to encourage them to continue to search for any underlying problems that may not have been checked for.

Losing a Mom is possibly the worst.
Gun control is hitting what you aim at
Mike - my condolences to you and the family - it is indeed a very rare condition and IIRC not an easy one to treat even if correctly and early diagnosed. That in itself, as seems the case - pretty difficult too.

Sorry to hear of you loss. You and your family are in my prayers. My mother went through something similar in and out of the hospital, and never finding "the" cause. Her last time she was admitted they came and told us it was cancer and no hope. She passed the next day. And the doctors were besides themselves as they had run tests for this kind of thing just a week or so before and nothing showed up. I hope you can find peace that she is at peace and in no more pain. The ones that are suffering are the ones that are left behind. God bless you and yours, Philip
My condolences to you and your family. You are in my prayers.
