Checking in. It's been a while

Hello everyone. I am checking in and saying hello. It's been a heck of a year already for us and not all in a good way.

First off, our son's headaches have returned again with a vengeance. We are in the process of getting the MRI's and other tests done for preparation for his surgery. He asked for it. He want's and so do Mom and I. It is to the point now where he is afraid to run around outside for fear of getting a headache and not being able to do anything for the next day or two. He had one that lasted 8 days straight. So in early June, Scotty will have Brain surgery. I'll keep everyone up to date.

Also, a little over a month ago, after a week of feeling sick but not running a fever or showing any other symptoms, our daughter woke up at 2am is excruciating pain down her left side. She had a hard time breathing and couldn't move without blinding pain. Her abdomen was rigid and I recognized the signs of internal bleeding from my Navy First Aid training. So I found out that out Dodge mini van will easily do over 100mph on the way to the hospital. Turns out she had a ruptured spleen and was bleeding internally. She spent 3 days in the ICU and then 4 more in the hospital. She had to get 3 units of blood to replace what she bled internally. They did not remove the spleen as she is 18 and in good health and said it would heal. When she was discharged they sent her home on oxygen.

She is much better now but the doctors told us she came very close to death. Very scary how quickly something can change. And the cause of all this? Mono. She had Mono and didn't know it. Who knew that Mono could do this?

As for me, the new job continues and is still rewarding but the amount of time I spend actually working is starting to grate on me. This job takes up far more of my life than I was told it would and far more than I am really willing to allow it to. I have 310 days until I can walk away from this job if I want and not owe the company any of the relocation money back. If it does not improve, I can see that as being the course I take.

This job has caused some real problems. Many of you know I lost 160 pounds several years ago and because this job makes it completely impossible to have any semblance of a normal or set schedule, I can't get to the gym with any real regularity and have gained about 30 pounds and lost any real muscle definition I had. I am not at all happy with the shape I am in or the way I look and that makes me more unhappy with the job.

But it is what it is and I will live with it as much as I can for as long as I can. But I see a possible return to TV in my future.

That is the news for our family.

Hi Mike! You and your family have been going through some pretty stressful times. Your son will be in my prayers for a successful surgery and that he can be rid of those headaches. Poor kid.
I'm glad to hear that your daughter is recovering well. That was a close call. There's just nothing more terrifying than your children being sick or injured.

Good luck with the job, I hope it gets better for you. You could use a break.

I'm glad you're back posting and I have to say that your weight loss is very impressive! Maybe when things calm down a little for you, you can get back to the gym.

My very best to you and your family.

If often wondered how Scotty was doing, as a parent of a neurologically affected son I remember when you said you'd found a neurologist you liked and I'd hoped he was doing better. My thoughts and prayers are certainly with him and your family as he goes through the surgery. Hopefully this will be a perfect solution and one day these headaches will be a distant memory. I'm so sorry he's going through this!

How incredibly scary with your daughter! I had no idea mono could cause such a thing and I wouldn't have recognized the signs of internal bleeding in a million years! So glad she's on the mend and will be fine! Great job dad for your quick response!

My thoughts are with you and your family! Hope things get better for you soon! Good to have you back!

I second all of the above well wishes, and am glad you had time to post the news. Hope Scoitt comes through - you're all in my thoughts on that. Glad the daughter is OK. Never knew Mono could progress like that, but glad all is well.

I think of you often, and hope the job situation improves.
