Two people in the world there is never a wrong place for. One is Chuck Norris, the other R.Lee Ermey "The Gunny".

    You lucky dog you.
Now that is somebody that I would gladly buy a dinner for just for the dinner conversation and ta heck with the food.

I think one of my old sets of elephant ivory grips (back when I was making ivory grips) ended up going to The Gunny.

My oldest brother is a retired Marine LTC and a one time Gunnery Sgt Drill instructor at the time of the McKeon incident. He gets very up tight when anyone mentions Ermey's honorary post-service promotion to Gunnery Sergeant (E-7) from the Commandant of the Corps. He believes that he retired with what he had earned, SSgt E6, and nothing more.

The Gunny Sgt rank is an honorary title for him, nothing more. His official retired rank and pay are still E-6 Staff Sgt. If they want to give him the title of Honorary Commandant of the Marine Corp, he'll still only draw E-6 retirement pay. I have no problem with the title he has been given.

Sure he was an E-6 and probably because of his inability to spout the party line. So I guess my thought is show me an E-9 that has done what Lee has done after retirement. pretty good at second career actor. Pretty good as TV host the History channell. Pretty good as a spokesman for gun company.

I think the guy earned my respect and if the commandant wants to promote someone who am I to argue?

Always wanted a History channell challenge coin.
