How DC got started, Please introduce yourself

I was sitting here thinking all the new members introduce themselfs to the rest of the members here . I am just a couple months here and was wondering how the site got started and when . And maybe hear about the friendships made online or in person from the site .

And if i have posted this in the wrong place please move . And if i am over stepping any bounds please feel free to say so .

DC was started by Bumper, a good friend of mine. He has a high code of moral standards and is a true Patriot.

Decensivecarry.com started out and began its Internet life as CombatCarry.com. Originally it was a site specifically tailored to legally licensed concealed carry with other "self" and home defense areas included.
Originally the site started out with only a few hundred members but, it has steadily grown.
    More so recently.
The very first Moderators on the forum were the Beta testers who then morphed into the Moderators.
CombatCarry was the brainchild of Bumper who years before was a military TANK operator. He was tall enough that he would sometimes bump his head climbing in and out of tanks. And that is how he earned that nickname.
He was and still is a darn good man (the very best) though I have not talked to him in a while.
I need to call him soon because I truly miss not talking to him.
After some time of running the show at CombatCarry and DefensiveCarry he decided to take an early retirement & move to another State and enjoy the great outdoors.
Also taking up a little farming and various other assorted things related to country living.

Eventually DefensiveCarry was sold to the present owners and here we all are.

The Moderators on this forum have all become pretty close. We all get along with one another extremely well and we do communicate a lot in the Staff area.

Our members here for the most part are all incredible, intelligent and very gun-smart human beings. Many have been actively participating for years.

There's just a few members that go back to the early days in 2004 that got this little forum started. I think it was called Concealed Carry back then.

There are still a few ancient members such as myself.
But, you know it's the Internet. Folks tend to come and go. Lives change. People get married. Folks change jobs, buy homes, have kids, go to war...get sick...etc etc.

I mostly stick around these days because I want to see as many new folks as possible get a safe start into firearm self-defense carry.

And there sure have been many thousands of those folks in recent days.

Found the DC site in 2005, lurked for some months reading much of the initial quality posts regarding gun control, liberties and people's input on a variety of topics. Joined in 2006. It was, by far IMO, the most rational set of discussions on defensive-carry situations and techniques that I had found, without most of the beat-the-newbie-'bout-the-head antics that are allowed on other forums. Sane, rational discourse.

Many of the old-timers no longer exist as active members. A few were shown the door, "colorful" as some of their input was. A few have passed, or moved on. A few have simply opted-out, many of whom I wonder about. (Grady, O!, Grady, where art thou?)

    CombatCarry.com -- the old name.
DefensiveCarry.com -- changed to this, to better reflect the defensive nature of the topics/focus.

Found this site back in 2006 when another site I was very active on took a fatal nosedive when the owner lost interest, lurked for a while and finally joined.

Thank You for sharing , I am at the age i like to gather as much wisdom as possible and to hear the stories like this . I also know time on this planet is not a guarantee in life. I love meeting new people face to face and talking ,work, politics, guns and many other topics. I still have so much to learn about guns and concealed carry . My gun collection and shooting took a back seat to taking care of my special needs son . He has continued to amaze me and inspire to be the best dad and husband i can be . He requires less assistance so some free time for me . So i can say to anyone new here i have met some nice people here , and the information has helped me already when my family traveled to TN. recently. So if anyone sees a Harley with a sidecar and a wheelhair mounted on the back, that might be us. We love to travel all over the Great United States . Much love to you , Dave

Post good stuff....we can make more. The workers laboring in the "like" sweat shop are busting ass 24/7 in order to try and keep up with the demand.

    LOL.

I lurked for about 6 months in 2007 and finally joined in Jan 08. I can say that my knowledge of SD and SD law has more than quintupled. My attitude/midset has gotten better as well.

DC is a great vehicle for knowledge.

I accidentally stumbled along and found this site when I was looking for forum "bear stories". I wanted to hear about encounters and was curious about the kind of firearm you would need if you ever encountered one for yourself. After I read through the thread, I started browsing around and that was it - I was hooked. DC has some of the most knowledgable people I have had the privilege to interact with, etc. I'm somewhat new to the firearms scene and have learned a lot by participating here. I didn't lurk long until I joined. Although it was a bear thread that had originally drew me here, I stayed for the defensive info. Not long before I joined, I had just gotten my Glock and was interested in getting a license to conceal carry.

Good thread OP, thanks for start it. ;-)

Keeping abreast of the new stuff and current conventional wisdom is what brought me here. A referral by a good friend got me started. He's the single most gracious fellow I know in all of gun forum-land.

I stay here because of the quality of membership and the way this forum has always been managed. I've met a very few forum members over the years and invariably, as good as they seem through their forum posts and as much as I admire them, they are even better in person!
