Saying goodbye to the best dog I've ever known...

Today, in a few hours as I write this, we are scheduled to put down our family dog, Mojo. He's been the best dog I've ever known, and an outstanding companion to our two young children. Sadly, today, he will have lost the battle with cancer @ 9 years young. We just can't allow him to suffer any longer. It would be both selfish, and unfair.

He is affectionate, reliable, obedient, and has the calmest demeanor I've ever seen in any Lab. He would lay patiently as our kids crawled all over him as infants and toddlers; yet be fierce and protective if he felt they were in danger. He was here before them, but quickly accepted them as one of us.

We've always cared for our dogs as they were part of the family. But none have touched me like Mojo. I find it difficult to think there would be another like him.

Godspeed my little friend...you will truly be missed.

I am so sorry to hear this, and I completely understand what you are going through...not much worse than losing a faithful canine family member.
We too, have suffered through losing such a friend...you are in my thoughts.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is not LIKE losing a family. They ARE family members.

So sorry to hear and I can feel your pain. Ever since I was a baby, we've had dogs and as I grew to be an adult, I too, have always had dogs. Losing one is never easy and is exactly like losing a family member because they are indeed a family member just the same (IMO). I care for, protect, feed, and so on my dogs just as I do my son.. Rest in peace, little fella.

Dogs`like this are special. Grief over them is natural. Other dogs come but they are all different.

I feel every word that I read in your post. Very sorry for you and your family members.
You are doing the right thing by not letting him suffer.
But, that sure does not help the loss hurt any less.

Your post brings tears to my eyes. 2 years ago we had to put our 11 year old chocolate lab down due to cancer. I still cry just at the thought of her. Try to focus on the time you were able to share. My thoughts are with you and your family, that is a very hard decision to make.

I'm truly sorry for your loss. It's tough to say the least. My best Border Collie buddy passed after 12 years and I still miss her to this day.

    There are no words.......

The time will come when you will think of your family member without tears welling up and will only smile. You were blessed to have had him....he is blessed to have someone who cares enough to do the best thing.

I know it's not much consolation, but you are doing the right thing.

He's been a faithful friend for 9 years and you owe it to him to end his suffering.

I've always held my dogs in my arms until they drew their last breath. I wanted to reassure them that it was ok....that they heard my voice, felt my touch, and smelled my smell up to the second they passed.

It's hard. But, I felt I owed it to them for being a good and loyal friend to me.

Tears are flowing. He looks exactly like my dog that also had cancer, she was 11.

I'm so so sorry and can truly feel your pain. Romans 8, there is part of that chapter that leads me to believe we will see them again.

Yes, IMO Labs are one of the best dogs you can have.
