The bombing in Beirut had a huge impact on me. It is a large reason why I'd stand on the yellow footprints 19.5 years later.

Screwed up rules of engagement has screwed up lot of people. You think they would have learned that from Nam.

I served with several Marine survivors of this specific attack.

One Marine that I think is a 'god' and I do adore him, rode the building (he was on an OP on the roof) down to the bottom when it was 'blod' up! He and I served together = He is one hard Corps Bad A// Marine (Recon and ANGLICO Marine)! He taught me well! Another Marine that I served with 10 years after the attack, mentored me more. He was the one that called in all of the USS New Jersey 'BB 62' 16 inch rounds of NGF on those, um, people. the day of the attack and two days later........... and he/it paid 'HE high velocity' and big mass retribution, that only well spotted 16 inch Naval Gunfire rounds could rain down on the BG.............. just sayin...

All you scrubs that do not know what real Naval Gun Fire is in a 16/45 round........... well, you just not have been to / or were not at the range that day:
    Different history, same story today!

A little bit of history on the NGF GUN = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/16%22/5...ber_Mark_7_gun

....Complementing the 16"/50 caliber Mark 7 gun was a fire control computer, in this case the Ford Instrument Company Mark 8 Range Keeper. This analog computer was used to direct the fire from the battleship's big guns, taking into account several factors such as the speed of the targeted ship, the time it takes for a projectile to travel, and air resistance to the shells fired at a target.

My dad, who taught at the USNA was an expert at this and reverse engineered the analog design to convert them to current digital Algorithms. He also was a warrior God!

God Speed to my brothers! Thank you for your sacrifice! I will meet you at the gates of hell, or heaven, whichever I am directed to!
