Woke up Friday morning at 4am by my wife who is 30 weeks pregnant with twins to tell me that she thinks her water broke. She denied any pain or contractions but just had a gush of fluid. On the way to the hospital I'm thinking that she'll probably be admitted the hospital for best rest and I should have gotten that darn hospital bag ready sooner. At the hospital the doctor does the speculum exam and all we can see is my sons head. Looks like they're coming now at 30 weeks. Now I'm thinking about all the things left to buy and what needs finishing on the nursery. Heck my wife's baby shower isn't even till the following day.
My wife starts freaking out as they prep her for immediate c-section and I'm pretending that everything will be fine. Despite knowing not hsving the 48 hrs to give steroids, I knew their immature lungs could have serious respiratory problems. They rush her back to the OR and the doc sliced her open and had the babies out in 6 minutes.
Waiting those few seconds for their cries after they came out have been the longest moments of my life. I am now the proud papa of two 2 twins weighing 3lbs 14 oz. Pretty good size for being 2 months premature. Mom and babies are doing well. They didn't have to be intubated thank God but both are on nasal CPAP.
Now for the many visits to the hospital over the next 4-6 weeks. Guess I have some time to finish that nursery now.
