A very selfless action - and undoubtedly there are lives saved due to that. Condolences to his family.
76, threw himself in front of the shooter when the man attempted to enter his classroom. The Israeli mechanics and engineering lecturer was shot to death, "but all the students lived - because of him," Virginia Tech student Asael Arad - also an Israeli - told Army Radio.
Several of Librescu's other students sent e-mails to his wife, Marlena, telling of how he had blocked the gunman's way and saved their lives, said Librescu's son, Joe.
"My father blocked the doorway with his body and asked the students to flee," Joe Librescu said in a telephone interview from his home outside of Tel Aviv. "Students started opening windows and jumping out."

A true hero... something for his family to be proud of. I wish there would have been more heroes there that day.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft!

Most Americans need to take some advice from the Israelis and learn to stand up to people that mean them harm.
Kudos to him.
Selfless act. I don't what else to say. May he rest in peace.
+2. Such a shame that situations like this are what bring out such heroic actions.
Over the next few days we will hear about the heros of this tragedy, all of which will be outweighed by the perpetrator.
EOD - Initial success or total failure
The part of his story that choked me was that yesterday was 'Holocaust memorial day' in Israel. Anyone who has been there on that particular day can vouch that it is extraordinarily moving, cars stop all over the country, people stop whatever they are doing, everything stops - and the sirens wail.
He was a survivor, that was what made it all so poignant to me.

Blessed is the heart with strength to stop its beating for honor's sake.
You have to make the shot when fire is smoking, people are screaming, dogs are barking, kids are crying and sirens are coming.
Ego will kill you. Leave it at home.
I seem to recall reading in a book that, "No greater love has a man than this: that he give his life for [another]."
Dr. Librescu had undoubtedly seen more evil than I ever will (I hope and pray)...and yet...he remained a good man.
If I may be so bold, I'd like to offer the following in his memory:
Rev. MichaelMOURNER'S KADDISH
An English Translation
Glorified and sanctified be God's great name throughout the world which He has created according to His will. May He establish His kingdom in your lifetime and during your days, and within the life of the entire House of Israel, speedily and soon; and say, Amen.
May His great name be blessed forever and to all eternity.
Blessed and praised, glorified and exalted, extolled and honored, adored and lauded be the name of the Holy One, blessed be He, beyond all the blessings and hymns, praises and consolations that are ever spoken in the world; and say, Amen.
May there be abundant peace from heaven, and life, for us
and for all Israel; and say, Amen.
He who creates peace in His celestial heights, may He create peace for us and for all Israel; and say, Amen.
