    Coming to America.

In the winter 1981 I was on a plane with two other friends on our way to NYC. It was my first trip to the US with enough Berlitz English in my brain not to go hungry or having to go into an alley to relieve myself. It was a tourist thing, some shopping to be done and visiting a friend in CT.

The inflight movie was about to start, I donned my headset, and a song begins. I got chills... serious chills. At the time I asked myself if it was some sort of omen. I guess it was, I am here.

    Glad to have you here.

We love it, too, this land. Now, if we all can simply get our public servants (office holders) to love it as much, we'll be getting somewhere.

So long as the core principles remain intact, the America we know can still be found. The America we all love.

Born and raised here, may I never become complacent regarding the power of freedom. May everyone be so lucky.

In my seventh year and now a proud citizen for 18 months ....... I loved this land from day one I set foot here.

In fact - my feeling on first setting foot was that despite being born in UK - I was always actually born an American .. it felt and still feels so right.

Only problem is - I still talk funny

Another funny talker here, I just tell everyone, when they ask where I'm from, that I'm from Kentucky. Always gets a laugh.
Came here just after 9/11 after living in England with my then girlfriend (now wife) from Memphis, we met in Prague. We were planning to trek Asia together, that was postponed after the terrorist attacks.
I've been a citizen for a year now, it is a deeply significant process and the fact that this country allows you to become a citizen is a very special honor.

I'm now doing all I can to enjoy it here. That might sound trite but it seems many who were born here don't achieve that, they don't appreciate the great country that they are a part of.

    Thanks.

Thank you for becoming an American. You have come here and became an American on your own, and made the decision to not be a permanent guest. You chose to do things correct and to pay your dues- I hope you reap all the reward our country has to offer.

    Thanks Sixto!

Hey Chris, one time I was in the Seattle ,WA. airport engaging in conversation with a very nice lady. Having been on a boat for almost 4 months, I was enjoying chatting with someone of the female persuasion. I mentioned that I'd been gone long enough that I'd just about lost my southern accent. She laughed really good at that and politely told me "no hon you have to stay out much longer than that". Miggy, you and Chris are the kind of people that would be a asset anywhere yall went. (But we're glad yall decided to come here) But what gets me is that yall usually know more about America than a lot that were born here. Sometimes the people that were born here take it for granted. I've spent quite a few times in other countries and can relate to the feeling of being out of place somewhat.
