Something from 2 years back
Three bits of light
Three bits of light on darkened eve
my focus must remain constant
on these three lights for they lead
through evil thougths and actions
of which I must refrain.
The air though hot warms not my veins
the liquid in them courses cold,
as I have seen these lights before
and done as I was told.
The stars line up as these three dots
a glimpse of humanity must remain,
to guide the stars or these three dots,
oh evil thoughts refrain.
Three sisters sitting in a hall
cutting strings of life that they call fate
They appear to me so clear right now,
and cause my mind to hesitate.
My body casts aside the mind
for it knows what it must do
has trained to deal with just this thing
my course of action true.
Three little stars aligned tonight
who knows what made that be
so many options paths or routes
I guess some call that destiny.
Through these stars I see a light,
an option hidden in the dark,
I need not do as I was told, again!
My index finger flexes, tenses,
disengages, flexes again, my voice
so strong to issue commands before
weakens and I mutter a plea,
not to the target aligned between these three little dots
but to myself, STOP, dont do it!
My body rejects my minds plea, finger flexes tenses
finally the threat is no more, and body and mind are one.
I wonder if he will ever know just how closely fate had come to
cutting his string, We will never know.

Basically what happened was that a guy attempted to reach for a weapon I shoved him back he came foward I backed up, keeping my gun hand free taking the sd stance I was taught, (no doubt much better ones out there now) he swung his arms and I was busy watching his hands making sure he didnt get the weapon he reached for, (ASSUMPTION ON MY PART PROVED CORRECT) because I shoved him by his lyrnyx/adams apple what ever you call it.
He was momentarily stunned, but not enough to come at me swinging his fists, I blocked what I could and took no serious damage, but then the fool backed up and started reaching for a weapon again, at that point I did what I had to do, I drew on him, some people I have talked to said they would have shot him, the sad truth is that I almost shot him, and it would have been legitimate but would it have been neccesarry.
As a result of this I have allowed additional lethal encounters in my life, because I dont want to shoot when I dont have to, VERY VERY FINE LINE, I hope everyone who carries walks that line but I know all too often there is a "shoot first let god sort em out attitude" posted that here over a week ago and no one had one word to say about it, probably because they had nothing nice to say.
So, where Am i going with this??????????? just asking if anyone else has ever had a situation where they thought they would have to shoot that played out passive?

You certainly had plenty of views and - I suspect until now when you have ascribed this to your personal experience, folks may well not have seen its full significance.
It does give good pause for thought. There must so often be what is for sure a very fine line. Luckily so far I have not trodden that line and hope not to .... but am glad you got out of that with no shots fired.
