Ray Chapman Has Passed Away
Ray Chapman, one of the founders of the original SW Combat Pistol League with the late Jeff Cooper, recently passed away.
Ray was truly one of the "old masters" and was a pioneer in the practical shooting disciplines, along with Cooper, Thell Reed, Jack Weaver and others. He is considered to be the father of IPSC.
He will be missed.
Rest in peace, Ray.
Ray Chapman, 1928-2008
When you’re wounded and left on Afghanistan’s plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Just roll to your rifle and blow out your brains,
And go to your God like a soldier.

Wow. Cooper, then Cirillo, now Chapman. Sad to see them go.
If I were a famous gun writer with a last names starting with C I might think of changing it!

I shot in 4 Bianchi Cups, the last one was Bianchi X; this year is XXX and Mr Chapman was to be there, I now live in Columbia MO and was lookng foward to meeting him. He was one of the giants and will never be replaced.
During Bianchi X I spent an hour at the hotel bar sitting between Bill Jordan and "Stony" of Barsto barrels. an hour i will never forget.

Nice guy: may he rest in peace.
Shot-placement is king. Adequate penetration is queen. Everything else is angels dancing on the heads of pins.

Sad - to see the old school gradually melting away.
Inevitable of course but - these guys are ones we sometimes feel will always be there - sadly not the case. There is however a great legacy left behind - memories and much that will be passed on ... Ray and all these folks will be well remembered, a long time yet.
