    Blood in urine

Last night around 6 pm I went to go pee. As I was peeing, I noticed that my urine was coming out red. Very red. Not a good sign.

Went to the doctor this morning. Best case scenario, it is a broken blood vessel in my bladder, infection or something else benign. Worse case scenario is bladder cancer.

I have a follow up visit with a urologist next week. Just some prayers would be nice.

Good luck, and know that bladder cancer is often successfully and easily treated, if that is what is going on.

There are other benign causes of hematuria and I sincerely hope that you will be well.

These things are tough to go through, I know from lots of personal experience as I myself am mortally ill with kidney disease. So, from the bottom of my heart as someone who would wish ill on no one but Osama Bin Laden, you have my fond hope that you are going to be just fine.

No pain. Just had a PSA done a few months ago and it was normal (no prostate cancer).

Did some research. Could be a whole range of things. I am praying for the more benign stuff.

Appointment is Monday morning. I will update you guys as I get more details.

A sense of humor helps with medical tests

It is very likely that your doctors will want to do a cystoscopic examination and x-rays called an IVP, and some ultrasound exams.

The cystoscope sounds just awful, but it really isn't a big deal at all these days. Been through 5 or 6 of them. A good sense of humor helps, and a relaxed attitude about it helps even more.

An IVP is nothing; again, a good attitude will get you through easily.

An ultrasound exam really is nothing. No discomfort or pain or invasive stuff.

A Mayo Clinic study years back showed that 50% of incidents of microhematuria were insignificant. I do not know what the picture is like with frank hematuria, but there is no reason to be feeling down.

Most of the time, things like this turn out to be "nothing" or minor, or readily treatable.

I sincerely wish you the very best of luck, and if you ever want to chat privately, I will try to help you out. I'm not a doc, but I have been trained in surgery (don't ask), and have actually done a kidney transplant one time; albeit on a dog.

Prayers sent that it may be minor.

I sure hope this turns out to be nothing. Sometimes the not knowing can be as bad as the treatment.
