My Grandfather was a mechanic for Marine Scout Bombing Squadron 132 (VMSB-132) on Guadalcanal. I took him to an Air Show in Huntsville about 12 years ago where they had a flying SBD Dauntless.
He spent 4 hours talking to the mechanics, they opened the engine and asked him questions about the electrical system. I don't know who enjoyed it more my Grandfather or the guys who restored the Dauntless.
I know I will never forget the look or tears that came into his eyes as he crawled over that plane.
We can never fully comprehend the scarifice that the WWII generation made for nor the fullness of life they gave to us.
