My dad passed away about an hour ago.

My father went home to the Lord just a short while ago. He was almost 96 and married to my mom for 67 years. I'm kind of groggy. Actually came to see him in Savannah this week and we thought he'd live to a hundred. My father was that rare breed of self made man. Raised on a dairy farm in Northern Maine he lived a hard scrabble life. He was the first of their four kids to leave the farm for a better life. He ended up being a nuclear engineer. He was also a warrant officer in the Navy. Won a medal for bravery and loved his family. Dad was a New Englander, not big on emotions like much of that generation but we had no doubt that we were loved. Funny how that works.
I would say of all my dad's accomplishments, his good name was his greatest asset. The Bible says that a good name to be desired above great riches. Having seen better men than me crash and burn on the rocks of greed and lust, I have come to appreciate my father's faithfulness and integrity in his work and his love of my mom. He's had alzheimers these past five years and this is a good, good, thing that he is home with his Lord. Here's a pic of my dad that is about a year old.

    Friend,

I won't say that I'm sorry that your Dad has gone home, but I will grieve for the empty place in your soul until you meet up with him again.

I'm so sorry that you lost your Dad. I know what you are going through. My Dad passed away last year at 78 years old. At the time my Mom & Dad had been married 50 years. It was difficult for the family.

Again, please accept my sincerest condolences at the loss of your Dad.
