My Mom Passed Away
My Mom passed away Wed. morning at about 2am. I haven't been on here much since then. Haven't really felt like doing much of anything. The days have all run together.
She was 75 and had been battling insulin dependant diabetes for about 40 years. She had gotten an infection and had to be hospitalized about 2 weeks ago. They had to put her on a ventilator when her throat swelled shut, last wed. This past sunday the doctor told us the ventilator would never come out, her kidneys had completely failed and she could not breathe on her own. She had never wanted to be on life support, so my brother, my sister and I decided to start making arrangements. It took us a couple of days to get everything in order. The plan was to have her receive her "last rites" then the next morning the doctor would stop the medications keeping her blood pressure up. This would allow her to slip into a coma, then he could remove the ventilator and she could pass peacefully.
The priest came and gave her the "last rites", tuesday evening and we all left, planning on returning the next morning, to carry out our agonizingly painful plan.
I got a call from the hospital shortly after midnight and the nurse told me that my mom had worked her hand loose from the restraint and pulled her own ventilator tube out. She told me they were giving her oxygen, but we needed to get to the hospital. We all rushed back and stayed by her side until she, quietly and peacefully, passed about 2 hours later. Her last act was to relieve us of the pain of having to "pull the plug" on our own mother. She was a great lady and will be missed.

I lost my Dad last September. It is a numbing event. My dad hung on for 4 days after they said he wouldnt make the night. The morning he died was the ONLY time he was alone since he was put in ICU. He waited till everyone else was in bed before he let himself pass. In those 3 days he proved to me that he was the strongest man i had ever known. I am truly sorry for your loss, use the love and support of your family and friends, that is what they are there for. God bless and realize that she is no longer suffering.

I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom was a very special lady.
It's been many years since my mom passed away. She was only 58.
