Prayers needed...
I'm not quite sure how to write this, so please bear with me...
My stepdad commited suicide (handgun) last night around 6:30pm. He'd been in poor health for some time (constant oxygen, colostomy bag, knees shot, heart issues) and he was just tired of living.
He survived two different ship sinkings during WWII while serving in the Navy, and was present in most of the major battles. He was also a lifetime NRA member, and we did a good bit of shooting together when I was a late teenager.
Please pray for my family and I as we make the needed decisions and arrangements.
Thanks.

It's never easy partner. We lost our oldest son when he was 18. Been some years back now. This may pass for you but it will never go away. In time the memory gets....sweeter I guess, for lack of better terms. It seems to me that this man has done so many things in his life....that's what should be remembered and celebrated. The circumstances of death are rarely pretty and not worth holding on to. For now I know it's an emotional roller coaster. Hang on and we'll pray.

Celebrate his life...
...I hope you and your family will seek grief counseling as a loss as such is very troubling.

+1 on the prayers; it is always hard losing someone like that. I lived with my grandfather for the last 6 years of his life, mainly because of the fear I had that he would take his own life after my grandmother passed away. My other grandpa had done just that several years prior, and I was bound and determined to not allow that to happen again. My grandpa was a WWII vet who lived for 6 more years, and while it was hard to lose him, I look back on those days now with a measure of pride that I did the right thing.
I would recommend that in your case you seek some grief counseling, possibly through your local church; my Father had a lot of issues when his father took his own life and it took him years to recover from it.
