    My sad story about Amy

About two years ago a young married couple nearby had their first baby, a girl, they named Amy. A week or so after her birth she became really sick and was in intensive care for quite a while. It was also discovered there that one of her kidney's was not normal, too small and not functioning. It and the poorly draining ureter was the source of a UTI.

She was further evaluated by a pediatric urologist and treated with antibiotics until she was big enough and strong enough to have the problem kidney removed. Nearly a year ago it was removed, she bounced back rapidly, healed quickly and was back to normal without any more problems. Typical toddler, and so very cute.

Yesterday she had a mild fever with some vomiting. Apparently during the night she got worse and her parents took her to the ER. I don't know the full story yet, but she rapidly deteriorated and passed away unexpectantly. I caught bits and pieces of information about a serious infection?

Of course her parents were devastated. My wife received a phone call from a priest who was assisting the grieving parents at the ER. We were asked to notify the grandparents and nieces who also lived nearby.

My wife and I took a deep breath and began our sad duty as messengers. Of course we knew Amy and all the rest of the family, we were heartbroken as well (we have a grandson about the same age) but we informed each of the family members as gently and as sympathetically as we possibly could, offering our support and help. It was a tough job.

We took the grandparents to the ER to meet with their son and accompany all of them home. Sadly it's not over, it's actually just beginning for all of them. It's been one of the most saddest days of my life.

My condolences, many years ago a friend and his wife lost their child to SIDs, very devastating. The healing process is long and very hard and sometimes needs professional help to deal with it.

The worst kind of sadness...hard to imagine losing a child.
I hope the family is surrounded with friends and relatives to help comfort them.

Thanks fella's, this is why I'm up........a sleepless night. Sadly I'm sure the family is having a BAD night also.

Thanks for listening it helps to get this off of my chest.

I was baling hay when my wife came to tell me. Her jog toward me, and the look in her face, told me to shut off the tractor and get down immediately. I was afraid it was some bad news about my father or one of our kids. Through sobs she told me that Amy had died......I can still see and hear her say that. We left immediately.

    ppk,

My heart goes out to you and Amy's family. Often the ones that are called to help are the ones most affected by tragedy. I will keep you, your wife and Amy's family in my thoughts.

No words!! As a pastor I've been where you are. I'll be praying for them and for you.
We will be much better off when we learn to deal with things as they really are, instead of how we wish them to be!

There isn't much worse than the death of a child.

Good for you and your wife for being willing to help the family and share in their grief.

The loss of a child is the most devastating thing that a parent can go through. Their lives are forever changed. Prayers go out to them in their time of grief.
