    Jim,

May Cathy and you know that incredible peace that passes any human understanding, in spite of, and maybe even because of, all this.

May the Lord bless and keep you both.

I didn't like the news here about your wife, but I know she has the best supporter she could possibly have in you.
She is on the prayer list as well as you.
Tell her I said now she can have her hair whatever way she likes and can change it quickly if her mind changes (could insert another comment about that but I'll refrain )
My wife grows her hair out long enough to donate and gets is chopped off and given to the organizations that make the wigs for cancer patients. If we were able we'd donate hair and send your way to help with a wig.
Keep you chin up, as I know you will. Keep us updated.

As she herself put it to me a few hours ago: She thought that because the surgery was a success and it was so small a tumor her recovery was going to be short and sweet. Now it's still going to be sweet but it will be a long and winding road. She'll never be alone not so long as I breathe and Jesus is her savior which of course, HE IS!

That's all I have. As soon as I know more, you'll know more. Thanks for all your love and prayers and good thoughts. You guys are the BEST!

My wife had a rare form of cancer, and most of her doctors didn't actually know what to do about it, so all we ever heard was "Wait and See". I am glad you have VERY aggressive doctors. Don't delay anything. In fact, see if there are any clinical trials going on for her type of cancer, who knows, there might be something new out there that will kick it to the curb. I'll be praying for you.

Don't neglect yourself. I spent so much time worrying about her that I almost wound up in the hospital when she needed me most. Get sleep, and EAT. It's easy not to, if you're concerned about things.

    Ex:

There's a cancer survivor support center on US 1 at the DSW shoe store across from Dadeland. My wife won't go, but a former co-worker (recently retired and a uterine cancer survivor) says that it's pretty good.

That chemo regiment sounds rough. My wife had two different regiments that lasted for about 5 months total. Then the surgery, THEN 33 radiation sessions. I've got a pretty good idea what you're going through. Hang in there. Our prayers will continue.

Thanks very much for that insight. You are absolutely correct and I will need to look after myself better. In fact I have an appt at the VA for a checkup next week.

This Friday is a big day for HER. First visit to the Oncologist to discuss her treatment. Which Chemo and will she lose her hair or not? She's going with my sister who has had a lot of experience in these matters helping friends thru the ordeal. She's already given my wife some sage advice: "Steel yourself for the first step into that office, it's not like a visit to a pediatrician. There will be folks in all stages of chemo and cancer and some may look like they're at death's door, but they're NOT you!" I thought that was very wise of sis. I would have never thought of that. She's pretty well prepped for the experience and ready for anything. She's already been wig shopping.

Jim, You guys are both in my prayers daily, even though I've been away from the forum some.

It ain't a piece of cake as you said. But so many of the newer treatments and drugs are very targeted to specific types of cancer and that is why they are having so much success in treating cancer.

I like what your sister said to Cathy about bracing for those she will see, and to remind her that "they are not her!" A good shot in the arm she will need to remember!

I'm very optimistic about all of this. From her physician to what they have laid out preliminary for treatment. Yup, it's going to be a long drawn out ordeal. The infantry is used to long drawn out campaigns, right? You guys will get through this! Keep your spirits up, Keep your prayers up, get plenty of nutrition and keep on soldiering on Sir! We got your back in the prayer dept.!

You have my phone number and email, so if you ever need anything or just chat for a while, Do Not Hesitate! Day or night, there is not an hour which is inconvenient for me!

    UPDATE: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2009

Wife met with the actual Oncologist today Dr Grace Wang, one of the best in the country. Oddly enough, she and Cathy have known each other since elementary school but lost track of each other after high school. Still it was apparently a homecoming of sorts, albeit not under the most pleasant of circumstances! My sister went with Cathy again as her "listener," and was wonderful support for my beloved. Thank you so much Sis! It would be almost impossible to get through all of this without you.

The news was less comforting that we'd hoped. Cathy does indeed have to have Chemo and it will be the "cocktail" that makes you lose your hair (wig shop, here we come) and possibly get pretty ill in the aftermath of the treatment. Nowadays they have some additional meds to help with nausea and vomiting. She is going to have a port inserted for these treatments and that is being planned for Nov 11th because it's not a school day and she won't lose a day of pay. All treatments are being planned for Fridays for the same reason, giving her a couple of days to recover so she can go back to work. She'll need to be driven home by somebody else after each treatment. That's my job but we may need help of family and or friends and some logistical coordination. We'll work it all out under God's supervision.

The Chemo is once a month for six months. Concurrent to that will be once weekly treatments of another chemical called (spelling questionable here) HERCEPTUM which won't make her sick but will have to continue for a full year. After that comes the radiation treatment. Radiation has no sickness or nausea associated with it but is very tiring towards the end of the treatments. One step at a time. Slow and steady.

There will have to be major alterations to our lifestyle and these are already underway, for us BOTH. As many of you know, I underwent Gastric Bypass surgery this past summer and have to date dropped over 85 pounds. So my eating habits are already dramatically altered but I'm going to track along with Cathy's new regimen since it will be even healthier and better for me especially in the sense of ummmm gastrointestinal regularity! LOL. Think a diet like would be found in the Mediterranean. Thank the Lord we live in Miami where that's pretty easy to come by! Also lots of EXERCISE! I've already been doing that both in resistance work (Bow-Flex) and with my new little semi-recumbent bicycle. But we'll need to do even more. According to the Oncologist, one of the major inhibitors to keep this lethal little bugger from returning is lots of exercise. Okay, so we know where our course is charted, now we just need the help of God Almighty and our family and friends. In my opinion we couldn't be in better hands with those groups, not to mention top flight doctors! I'll keep y'all posted here. Keep praying, please! ExSoldier
