Wish me luck! Second interview!
I had an hour-long phone interview, today, with the head of a consulting firm. I've been scheduled for a second interview with their lead developer. If that goes OK, they want me to fly down to their offices for a face-to-face. I'd be a full-time employee, a project manager, but working from home. 25-35% travel to client sites. Coordinating work with an offshore development team. I'd have to travel to the main offices for a few days every six weeks or so. Otherwise, I'd be home or at a client site. It's been six months since my last contract, so I could really use this!

Good luck. I've been out of work in the past and it sucks. Hope this works out. Sounds pretty good from what you've described.

Good luck! And congrats on even getting that far, Its a pretty rough sea out there.

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government. - Thomas Jefferson

Thanks, folks. I had five possible contract projects cancel due to the economy, since June, and a number of local interviews where they don't even bother to call back. One company made an offer at 38% of what they were paying for the same position a year ago. I guess if one is truely desperate, you have to take what you can get, but typically, what companies try to do in this situation, is make a lowball offer, and if someone bites, they lock them in at that unrealistically low pay, and then reneg on any suggestion of adjusting to norms for the industry when the economy heats back up. It's a cynical tactic, but I guess they don't expect people to stick around.
No word on when this week's interview will happen, just that it will. The principal with whom they want me to speak is on the west coast and can't take time for the interview until near the end of his workday (3 hrs earlier). They wanted to set it up for over this past weekend, but I had a prior commitment and was traveling. Who knows? I may be traveling to Atlanta or their offices in SC later this week or next!
