    Check the Wool Content!

I went to pick up some more wool socks yesterday, and had a large variety from which to choose. One set said "wool socks," but the listed wool content was 13%! I got another set for the same price that had a total wool content of 80%. Make sure you check the package so that you're not paying for synthetics when you think you're buying wool.

Totally not the thread I was expecting.

I've always done this, since the advent of blended creations. 80% or better is my basic rule with woolens, when hunting for new garb. I figure much of the great wool properties won't be there, without at least this much wool. I'm all for a bit of "miracle" fiber tossed in, such as to add elasticity/stretch, durability, layering. Even then, if it's a heavily worked and "abused" form of wool, often the great properties can be so weak there's little point to the garment. Caveat emptor, to be sure.

But, like you, I hate it when something's called X but has a paltry amount of it in the product. That'd be like buying "bread" in which the twelfth ingredient was wheat flour.

As to the OPs remarks well for around 15 or more years I've bought the bulk of my winter sox at Costco. They are a blend to improve wear ability and with a 3 pack running about $12+tax about the best deal if you can't find someone nice to just give you 6 to 12 pairs. In the past I would keep 6 or more 3 packs on hand. Since my Costco memberships have been spotty the last 20 years or so before my membership expired I would stock up on certain items. My 7 1/2 pound jug of Hershey's Chocolate syrup is mostly fumes so I'll be running over there sometime soon.

I really LOVE that Chinese BBQ Pork and those Killer Apple Pies for 10 bucks a pop.

GI Surplus OD winter sox are handy to have under a Costco type winter sock if you have to be someplace really icy. For temps like that or walking in actual snow I wear my Sorel type snow packs.

When it says virgin wool how do they know? Do they have heavy petting wool or trashy wool? Just playing good info I always like wool for hunting. Some of the blends are pretty good too but you can't beat all wool.

Good source of some decently-made wool sweaters: WoolOvers.

Have purchased a few of their sweaters and have been fairly impressed, so far. Good quality, all machine washable, good prices. Not affiliated with them; just a satisfied customer.

There is a seller on ebay selling very high quality Merino Wool Socks.

They are the most comfortable socks. NOT itchy at all and super high quality.

I bought 6 pair and I am going to buy more.

They are machine wash but, should not be put in the dryer. But, they air dry quickly.

    They were not expensive.

I will post the seller here.

OK I do not have time to run through the multitude of various socks this seller offers but, I bought these in Brown but, one color is as good as any other. I can recommend this seller as offering a quality product.
