    Hm. "Not" is right.

Gonna get the "ropes" hung up on sticks and whatever else, while walking. And, gonna get the butt wet, having to plop down like that.

    Crazy idea, that one.

Myself, I'd prefer to keep the tarp, proper tent and "rain" ditch dug around the perimeter.

I'll take a plastic tarp and a flame thrower over that any day.

Not to hijack the topic - we used to just pack junk (stuff the shute into the container) for MFF jumps.....after all, you only get so many attempts at planting yourself.................. was kind of fun. The Talcum Powder = 'Big Poof' is kind of fun as a visual and really annoys people! Trust me, it annoys them, because it is very visual and they know exactly what you are doing.

Well I am nowhere near as skinny as her so I doubt I will ever fit, I think I could come up with a better shelter with the parachute and 550 cord they gave us in survival school.

    In all seriousness, though--

About 5 years ago the various wildland fire agencies switched their fire shelters over to a new design. The "old" design is rather like a compact tinfoil pup tent with fiberglass insulation. I'm already used to packing one around for work (they weigh about 4 lbs), so I have continued to pack a surplus one for an emergency shelter (they're designed to reflect heat, after all.)

Used one in grand teton about 6 years ago guarding an elk carcass that I shot at the end of the day and didn't have time to quarter out and pack and didn't want to leave to the bears. Kept me warm in 4' of snow and a light snow shower (probably about 20 degrees for the low, no sleeping bag but hunting clothes, and of course I kept a fire going to keep the grizzlies away).

You may want to consider picking one of these up. They are a bit heavy, but work in cold weather!

They think they don't need firearms because they never have needed them.

My first response was "what the...." then i began laughing uncontrollably. I'm not sure but i think I would be safer in a large 60 gal trash bag.
