Handcrank / Solar charged Emergency Radio

Anyone have any recommendations on handcrank/solar emergency radios? I was looking at the Kaito KA500 and 600's, but after reading a lot of reviews they left me concerned on the quality.

Looking for typical AM/FM/SW/NOAA with handcrank and/or solar charging capabilities to add to the frankenjeep.

I'll be watching close too. I wanted to add one to my just-in-case box, but got frustrated as there did not seem to be one clear winner that struck a balance of price/quality.

Personally, I prefer to have two separate items instead of combining two different functions into a package that is mediocre at best for either functions.

I go with the good low power usage radio and rechargeable batteries with a solar panel designed to recharge batteries.

There are several low cost ham (if you have your license) and frs/gmrs radios that run on rechargeable batteries and they have NOAA weather alerts built in.

Then I have power for multiple items like charging cell phones, flashlights, and other battery operated devices.

The OP is asking abt handcrank and/or solar radios .....
The police are not there to protect you from crime, they are there to arrest the guy after the crime has been committed, assuming they find him. It is your responsibility to protect yourself and your family.

My older ETON was great w regard to battery life AKA 3 AA Batteries.

This ETON American Red Cross has TERRIBLE Battery life. Worse than terrible.

Plus you can crank your guts out for 15-20 minutes to get 5 minutes of radio play time.

The solar is OK and will operate the radio. The sound quality is good. The reception is good.

If you have one don't throw it away but keep on shopping for a better one.

The absolutely pathetic AAA battery life is the killer though.

I should add that when I actually first checked this radio out I did not even realize how bad the battery life was. You can even have this radio turned off with a fairly new set of 3 AAA batteries installed and in a few days the batteries will be dead.

At this time I am listening to my hand cranked/solar powered AM-FM made by Free Play in South Africa.

Mine won't kill batteries as it uses no batteries.
Since I didn't 'date it' when I bought it I am guessing I bought it in 1998. This is a similar radio as that of the type Art Bell used to push on his syndicated radio program Coast to Coast with Art Bell.
It has no NOAA weather No Short Wave capability. Just plain old AM-FM. I got CW on now.
Firing a suppressed is on my Bucket List.
