    Get home pack surprise

For Christmas, my oldest son got me a Fieldine Pro Series Glenwood Canyon Internal Frame Pack. He knew I was looking for a pack for use as a get home bag as I am a Field Service Engineer and travel up to 2 hours from home almost daily. He found this pack on sale at Walmart and liked it. It didn't cost much either.

I really like the pack and have it all set up and in the vehicle with me at all times. Good capacity and the internal frame works well to distribute the weight.

My wife really liked it and as she works about 40 minutes away from home and wanted a get home bag of her own we decided to get her one as well. But, as hunting season was over and this is made as a hunting pack, there were none in the stores now. Looked on line and found them on a site for $40 and ordered her one.

Took 3 days to get to us, delivered via Fedex ground. When the box showed up I brought it in and opened it up and saw the brand new bag wrapped in plastic. Took a picture to send to the wife and when I tore the plastic off I discovered that they had accidentally shipped two of them. Checked the shipping documents and saw that onlt one was listed and the price plus shipping was correct for just one bag.

Called the retailer we bought them from and they said not to worry about it as it was their mistake. Unexpected but very happy to hear it.

As I say, I am very happy with this bag. It really can't be beaten for the price either.

    Wow! You're lucky day.

I put a couple types of maps in my bug out bag.

One is a map of railroads and the other is a topography map.

Congrats on the deal! It was nice of you to be honest and let them know they made a mistake and shipped two instead of one, and nice of them to let you keep the "freeby". You were honest and they demonstrated great customer relations! Win-win situation.

You hit a home run on that deal. Bought one at a low price and got one for free!

I was going to buy a couple as well, and just checked the WM website and they are "sold out".

    Darn !

I have a smaller field line pack.... not big enough for a 3 day bag, but as a get home bag it is great. During hunting season it carries spare socks, undies, and woolies, lunch, extra water, 1st aid , spare knife, flashlight, fire starter, ziplock bags, granola bars, and anything else I may need to stuff in it. Got it for 25 bucks a few years ago and I really like it. I will have to check out the bigger bag now as well. Could make a nice trunk bag :)

Thanks I'll do that too. I checked their website and it indicated some local WM stores having them in their inventory. No problem.........if I can believe their inventory?

My get home bag has to be a fairly big bag because I am often 100 to 150 miles from home on any given day. If the SHTF in such a way that the cars stopped working, say a big EMP type of situation, I have a heck of a walk to get home. Assuming 20 miles a day, it might still take me 5 or more days to get home. So a 3 day bag might not be adequate for my get home needs.

Yeah I saw that too. But, the two Walmarts I checked both told me that they really only have them in stock in the store before and during deer season. So I'd think the chances of finding one in a WM stare might be low at this point.

Can't beat the deal and it sounds like a great pack!

Off topic, but a couple of years ago I bought some outdoor furniture from Home Depot - a sofa, 2 chairs, 2 foot stools and 2 tables. The sofa had a flaw and I couldn't get it level with the legs they sent. I contacted them and they were supposed to send me a new sofa. Instead they sent me an entire set. I contacted them and they told me to just keep it all. I ended up finding a way to level the sofa and now have 2 complete sets for the price of 1. Sometimes you just get lucky!
