It snowed Friday and half of Sauday. Friday was like 4" of mashed potatoes. Saturday morning was a true winter 6" dump.

So, we (I) decided to build a quinzee hut. How to build a quinzee snow shelter -- Boys' Life magazine

It won't last long with the forecast, but it was sleep-able Saturday night, and lots of fun for the kids Sunday. Better than the doghouse!

It took about 90 minutes for me to pile the snow. Let it set for two hours while I ran errands. Two more hours of hollowing out a sleeping bench. It is big enough to sleep two, but I got lazy during construction, and didn't finish bunk #2. It's too warm to really appreciate the insulation quality. In the last one I built, we kept it quite comfortable with an REI candle lantern and two bodies.

I'm not too wild about the trees that grow down, but I WANT one of those cars that drives upside down.

BTW - what keeps the snow up?

On another note me and 6 other guys partied it up 30+years ago in a snow shelter that I reckon we built a bit too roomy.
With 7 of us sitting on ensolite (insulated sleeping pad) we were quite cozy with Blackberry brandy.
