When life gives you lemons...
It snowed Friday and half of Sauday. Friday was like 4" of mashed potatoes. Saturday morning was a true winter 6" dump.

So, we (I) decided to build a quinzee hut. How to build a quinzee snow shelter -- Boys' Life magazine
It won't last long with the forecast, but it was sleep-able Saturday night, and lots of fun for the kids Sunday. Better than the doghouse!
It took about 90 minutes for me to pile the snow. Let it set for two hours while I ran errands. Two more hours of hollowing out a sleeping bench. It is big enough to sleep two, but I got lazy during construction, and didn't finish bunk #2. It's too warm to really appreciate the insulation quality. In the last one I built, we kept it quite comfortable with an REI candle lantern and two bodies.
