    Drinkable book- paper water filter

Just saw this on WIMP. Very cool! You tear pages out of the book and use them to filter water. Not sure if they are selling these, but cool none the less.

I have a bit of a survivalist mentality and would love to purchase one of these. There are practical reasons to have something like this, other than some doomsday end of the world scenario.

On April 27, 2011, my town was devastated by an EF4 tornado. It literally looked like a war zone. Our water supply was declared unsafe. 11 people killed in my town, hundreds injured. About 900 homes out of about 3800 destroyed or unlivable.

Fortunately we had a lot of supplies delivered, including all the bottled water we needed. But what if conditions were such that these supplies couldn't reach us for a few days? We could have boiled water on a grill, but this drinkable book seems like a better solution.

I'd looked for how to buy this with no luck. I know it was designed for 3rd world countries, but I'd love to see it for sale here.

    Pretty neat idea.

Easy to carry into an area, easy to drop by the pallet load. Should have an extremely long shelf life. Not exactly high volume, but I'm sure a larger sheet/tray could double or triple the flow.

Hm. There's got to be a way to make a standard "oil" filter type package with this sort of paper in it. Imagine the sort of flow like an engine sees. Stick a standard funnel or hose onto one end, keep filling the cistern or bucket it's connected to, and out the end comes high volumes of potable water. Oil filters aren't that expensive, either, but with this sort of paper they might handle disaster areas and other high-volume situations.

That is expensive and time consuming. Look up the TV show "How they do that" or something. They did an episode on IIRC Miami, Fl having a desalination plant.

I was over at my buddy's place yesterday and he needs one of these books right now. His well pump went kaflooyee 3 weeks ago. He has been collecting rainwater ever since.

As BamaT outed himself "I have a bit of survivalist mentality" ... sure I'll just bet it's a bit or a skooch or 'just a dab' I'd love to buy one or 2 of these books myself provided they are reasonably priced for a budget thinking American such as myself.

The video made the claim it just costs pennies to produce this book. That's all well and good but that don't mean nuttin'. Between the cost of production and packaging plus advertising how much will the manufacturer jack up the price to the world> Fifty percent? 150%? 400%? 1000% markup?

That's the bottom line right there. How much will this bad boy COST ME??

All the same if it's relatively affordable I want one or two.
