Thieves snag iPad from buyer, yank a finger off while they're at it

Not that I would take someone down in this scenario... it is an iPad that can be replaced and is in a crowded mall/store... but it does just reinforce the whole reason why it should behoove you to carry chambered because you never know when something like this might happen that incapacitates your other hand rendering you incapable of racking the slide (or making it more difficult anyways).

This happened at my mall not too far from here. We are there about every other weekend (I was at that same Apple store buying a bluetooth keyboard for my iPad just last week). Just goes to show it can happen any time and anywhere... it is an upscale mall in a posh neighborhood.

Yep... I can think of countless times where I've done just that... wrapped the bag around one or two fingers and twisted it so I would have a tight grip.

I saw a guy loose his finger in almost the same way, he got hung up on the door frame leaving the market and the plastic bag loop pulled half his finger off. I guess even when it comes to plastic shopping bags, there a right way to carry and a wrong way.
I know what you're thinking: "Did he fire six shots or only five?" "Is that a Smith & Wesson 686+ 7 shot or 627 8 shot?" "Does he have a concealed Sig P226 SCT and two spare mags?" You've got to ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, punk?

Just read this on my local paper, just wow. Would hate to have someone try that but someones pulling I am obliged to go with the bag and start stopping the person.

Unfortunately, thieves will do what they want to get what they want. This sort of incident is rare here, but it is not all that uncommon in large SE Asian cities where they will cut off a womans ear to steal her ear ring.

I saw the interview with the victim last night on our local news. He said it peeled the skin off and tore the tendon, was down to the bone. Came up behind him and grabbed the bag as he was halfway out the door. From the video, it almost looked like he was on the outside, the BG on the inside, doing a tug-o-war through the mostly closed door. Not a very defensible position. On the other hand, presenting an EDC would have probably made the crook turn tail and get out of town quick!

There are photos of the BG from mall video, so PD is on the lookout.
What the **** - How did I end up on this soapbox again?!?!?

Thanks for posting this. I have never really thought about how I carry shopping bags. I will be uch more aware now, and make sure my friends and family are too. I don't think that is something most people would think about as being an issue.

I don't know, but I think dismemberment and robbery are pretty good justification for deadly force.
