Local Shooting, could better SA saved a life?
Two Men Dead Following Shooting in Ironton
Tom Hennessey Jr., a Reynolds County resident, shot and killed Carl M. Jones of rural Iron County on Friday, June 11, in the Town and Country Supermarket parking lot at 616 North Main in Ironton. Police say 54-year-old Thomas Hennessey Jr. shot 63-year-old Carl Jones as Jones walked out of the store. When Hennessey confronted Jones, he shot him three times in the head. When Jones fell to the ground, Henessey reloaded his weapon and began shooting Jones in the chest. Jones was shot 11 times.Witnesses say Hennessey left the scene in his truck.
For the rest of the story, see this week's newspaper.
Here is a synopsis of the rest of the story (sorry we have a rural 1 a week paper)
Hennesey was caught up to by local PD he tried to ram PD car with his truck in reverse. Officer fired 3 times through back window. 1st shot was a CNS hit to base of the skull. score one for the good guys
These two had been fighting over an easement dispute for several years the shooter had threatened people with a firearm in the past. Side note: I'm a land surveyor and guys like this are why I got my CCW. They had an altercation hours earlier at a little league game.
It seems like this a scenario that gun or not wouldn't matter (unless as a deterrent if shooter knew you had one). My wife and I have debated this, how do you defend against a determined killer short of forting up
I think you just need to listen to your gut and expect anything from anyone, and not be too proud to run
Being shot in the process of committing a crime provides potent Pavlovian conditioning to the perpetrator.

??? So did he think he could get away with executing someone in public?
I don't understand his mindset, unless he was choosing death (by suicide or LEO) or life in jail rather than settling the issue another way.
Chainman, I understand why you carry. Land disputes can get heated.
I was in Ironton last week. I like to stop at the gun shop 2 minutes down the road in Arcadia. They advertise they have "1900 guns". That could be right. They have lots of guns.

Sad, if he did not have the gun he'd probably run him over with his truck!

I mean, sure, there are definitely scenario where you're going to get killed. For example, someone sits off 100 yds with a deer rifle, watching your front door. A cc weapon just won't protect against everything that could possibly happen; it just helps tilt the odds in your favor, sometimes quite a bit.

The second someone starts to pull a gun on you and determined to shoot you .... depending upon your distance, you only have a few choices....
IF they are really close .. it's
1. Run
2. Go for cover
3. Stop them from being able to pull their gun and/or shoot it
4. Shoot them first.
What else is there ?

Thus the rub.
He had no mindset and he was not thinking.
He's a crazy person...Mental.
Crazy people act by raw emotion and delusion, most often misguided.
See the butt naked lady that stole multiple cars including a cop car and scaled a barbed wire fence as to flee before being stopped with a taser, from yesterday.
Do not try to understand these people nor hurt yourself attempting to get into their head & logic pattern.
Just accept that these people are among us and at any moment they'll do whatever including reaching over to cut your head off as you sit next to them asleep on a bus.

That guy on the bus never had a chance. Probably severely wounded from the first cut, no help from anyone else, and no one else either having a weapon or the willingness to offer help. Hmmm, I wonder if the bus was a "no knife" zone?
As far as the crazies, you're right about accepting that they live among us. They surely do.
I'm not sure I like humans any more.
