I Want To Be Your Sledgehammer...

This just happened yesterday in CT. A jewelry store robbery where a sledgehammer was used to order everyone to the ground. What would have been the best course of action?

Run, depending on the size of the hammer he'll never catch you.

I can not believe the mentality of the sheeple today. Folks, a sledge hammer, What's next, a box of pasta? OH NO... He's got spaghetti, quick everyone on the ground. I hate to quote a movie here, but remember the scene from Indiana Jones and the guy with the big sword swinging it all over the place? Indy just gave a "you have got to be kidding me face" and shot him. Now I was not there and not trying to sound like John Wayne, but protecting property, innocent lives, etc, putting a bead on someone would have probably stopped the incident right there and they would have ran out of the place. If they wanted to push it, your weapon is drawn. Hopefully one would have a high capacity glock and be able to take out all three if need be.

Again, I can not believe what people will get down on the floor for.

Sledgehammers can be pretty dangerous, especially if the dirtbag was good with it. Could he swing and knock bullets out of the air?

I can swing my fist a lot faster than anyone can swing a sledgehammer. Unless I don't see it coming, I know I can out manuver someone swinging one too. It'll be a cold, cold day before anyone gets me to comply with a sledgehammer!!!!

Great now we have to ban sledgehammers! lol
If it had been only one guy I would've charged him, if you catch him off guard you could easily tackle him before he can swing the hammer. Since there was more than one, I would've just sat quietly unless they started acting like they were going to hit me or someone else with the hammer, then the gun would've came out.

The online story didn't mention it, but the thieves actually threw the sledgehammer out the car window when they were driving away.

Well, this is just me, but
    1. Draw

    3. Fire if necessary

I consider a hammer in the wrong hands to be a very deadly weapon.

Well, at least they can run ballistics on the sledgehammer.

Me too. Some of the comments above show a determined lack of respect for the danger this kind of tool can pose. The war hammer comes in a number of versions, and you can buy them easily - like this medieval style, and this Asian type.

Now, if the BG in question is holding the sledge like somebody trying to drive a spike, that's a big windup and swing - not optimal. If he's holding it up more like a staff, with a hand near each end, he can punch, swing, thrust, jab, trap, and strike with either end.

The hammer fight in Streets of Fire comes to mind as an example of Sledge-Fu.

I wonder how much the BG's threatened the sheep with the sledgehammer, it was there to break glass in showcases. The video said BGs had no weapon other than the sledgehammer.
