How do you sleep??

If this thread is on here, I could not find it. I mean no offense or anything erotic or pornographic by this question. It is a serious thought that I had.

I have heard of keeping a pair of boots, or shoes by your bed at night for the bumps in the night. I have also heard of keeping a pair of pants in the room close by.(nam vets have turned me onto the idea) And I have heard of some people even keeping a modified gear belt with a holster, flashlight, and ammo at the ready.

So here is my question. What do you wear while sleeping. I know there is the possibility of the pants to throw on but there may not be time. If you gotta get up in the middle of the night and engage what is the proper attire? Its no secret that some people sleep in the buff or just shorts or just a shirt.

What is your theory on this? Male and female please chime in. Keep it clean.Thanks.

Jason

I used to sleep in my B-Day's best, but I've grown up a with a kid in the house, now, I sleep in shorts, or PJ pants, no shirt tho... but the lockbox is literally 3 feet from my hand and I live in Florida, so, going outside barefoot and barechested is not really much of a concern 11 months out of the year.

I live alone but even if my daughter lived with me I would still sleep nude. If something happens in the middle of the night I could care less if I'm naked. I will confront you nude and I do not have problem doing so.

What he said, Don't have a daughter, but, I got over body shyness a LONG time ago, getting Uh, Volunteered to assist in performing a nude wedding will do that. ::300+ people and not a stitch:::

I really don't care how I am dressed or not if something happens.
The Glock is on the night stand, the Mossy 500 under the bed on a shelf, my wife has her .357 under her pillow, we each have 2 flashlights.
I refuse to lose a few seconds and some concentration so that the BG doesn't see me naked; it might be his last image !!!
A noise outside, I am not going right away to investigate.
I am going to play with the lights (all lights in the house can be remote controlled from my night stand - X10 system); that is going to worry the intruder, wondering how many people are living here and how are they moving so fast.
Still a threat ? 911 and we have the time to get dressed while they arrive.

Really, for us it is a non-issue.

One time, mid-morning, I heard noise in the patio, which has total privacy and came out dressed only with my UZI; it was jehova's witnesses !!! I gave them a lecture on trespassing (my property is posted) told them I could call the cops, and let them go.
For some reason they never came back.

So that's all I have to do to stop them from coming to my house :haha::rofl:

I sleep wearing the same thing I was born in. I'm not worried about offending the bad guy with my nudity. In fact his rotfl could be a tactical advantage to me, and I'll take any advantage I can get!

I bounce back and forth between boxers and bday suit. My wife sleeps in shirt and panties. We also share a house with my parents and our daughter. I think if I am investigating I will throw on some kind of pant. Usually my pants from that day have my knives and ID in them. The LEO id may come in handy if I happen upon some kind of police investigation or something going on. Not that I live in a bad area.

Pair of boxers usually. When I was with my wife or before that a GF who lived with me either boxers or nothing. My EDC is well within arms reach, pair of pants and boots on the floor next to the bed. To be honest, if I dont have time to throw pants on, oh well. I really do not have a problem engaging a BG in my home while nude.

I sleep in the buff, and in all reality if I feel there is a threat, time is precious and I don't have time to throw the shorts on.

Yes, I have heard a loud thud in the middle of the night and cleared the entire house, naked....

I felt a little silly once I felt secure.

Shorts, gun nearby and loaded with more than one flashlight to lite things up. That is just after my Video Cameras Beep me to motion in their view so I can figure what exit I want to go out of.

Totally birthday suit, with flashlights, a Winchester pump, a mini-30 with 20round magazines, several loaded 1911s, 2 Glocks and a chunky, blindingly white body to terrify any BGs. I can cause absolute terror in any creature, screaming down the stairs blazing all the way...

I've always wondered why more people don't do that. In a worst case scenario where there is a breakdown in your early warning system and the BG(s) are in your bedroom already, I don't think one would have the opportunity to get to their pistol on their nightstand or a longgun a few feet from the bed. In this situation, a pistol on your person would be the only thing that would work.

I keep this by my side of the bed:

:image035:

My jeans are close by but I might not waste time getting them on...
can you imagine the insult of being shot by a fat white naked guy?

I sleep in my shorts, and my Glock and SureFire are within reach from my bed.
I'm a sound sleeper, but the wife hears everything. Someone kicks in a door or breaks a window, I know it's not the girl scouts...I'm not coming out with money for cookies.:nono:
:comeandgetsome: :dead:

Clothes in the floor, light, extra mag, glasses, and pistol on nightstand. My house is very small. So the possibility of a "naked man with a Glock" scenario is quite possible for me. Potentially followed by naked woman with Rem 870. Watchout!!!! :twak: :gah:

I generally keep a pair of shorts/pants by the bed with my keys and wallet in them.

But I sleep in the same thing I've been wearing since I was a kid. T-shirt and undies. Except a little larger size..... Ok......a lot larger size.

I work a 24 hour shift, however after 4 pm, I get to go home and respond to EMS calls from home at night. One of the benefits of working a rural area these days, so I always have pants and boots at the ready whether I'm on duty or off.

However, in the middle of the night, if someone is inside my home, they get me as is... Boxers and a light mounted Glock-23 or Colt AR-15.

I will only don pants and boots if time permits, which usually means the bad guys are still on the outside trying to gain entry.

I also have two hound dogs which are a pretty good alarm system. Sometimes they bark just at people walking down the street, sometimes not. But if anyone's making noise in the yard, knocking on the door, breaking glass, pounding or making scratching sounds on the side of the house they go absolutely berserk.

Only thing I have to add to this thread is that if any situation that requires you getting out of bed unexpectedly happens, clothing takes a backseat to getting a weapon in hand. If I need to go outside to continue an investigation (and a lot of people say to not do that, but I'm adventurous), I might throw on a karate gi or training jacket. These are normally laying at the foot of the bed.

I really like Thumper's setup shown above and am thinking about rigging up something similar.

If someone's in my house, or about to get in my house, then game's on. I'm not going to care about my appearance. Once when our two kids were still living at home, youngsters at the time, I awoke about midnight with some serious bumping at our front door, not knocking but bumping and shaking.

Living far out in the country, I can remember feeling very responsible for the protection of our two kids and my wife. I did not want whoever breaching my house. As I quickly approached the front door area (in the dark) the noise stopped. I waited in the dark a while listening and never heard another sound. Waited longer and nothing. I turned the porch light on and nothing. I opened the front door and called the dog, he came running up as happy as could be, with 3-4 distinct claw marks across his nose. I'm pretty sure the bumping was he and a ferrel cat had got crossways on our porch and made the bumping noises I heard.

I was actually real happy to see those bloody scratches since they pretty much solved the mystery of the noises.

If I need to go outside in a hurry then that's a bit different, here's a related thread:
