Dogs wear their emotions on their sleeve. Body language will tell you all you need to know about a unfamiliar dogs temperament. If the recently departed dog approached the LEO and family bristle backed and baring teeth, do what you got to. If the two dogs got close enough to play, chances are thats all they will do. Some dogs growl and look pretty ticked off when they play, maybe he mistook rough play for a life-threatening situation.

    Totally agreed.
Very much a huge mistake/mental error.

People think of pet beasts as though they are physically and/or mentally retarded children.
    They are not.
They are beasts who to varying degrees are un-predicatable.
Dogs bite. Cats bite. Birds bite. Horses bite (my mother inlaw was bit in the face by her own horse while feeding it!). Pet monkeys, oragnutans, bears, snakes, lizards pigs, fish and insects they bite too.

Like humans not every beats likes every human or beast.
And like humans they are not always easily predicted, regardless of their more normal temperament.

The 911 call tape is available: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/loc...at-park-t.html

I think the off duty officer is going to be in a world of hurt. On the 911 call, he makes no mention of the dog he killed threatening him, but rather he says he shot the dog because it was "attacking" his dog.
Battle Plan (n) - a list of things that aren't going to happen if you are attacked.
Blame it on Sixto - now that is a viable plan.

First problem is that he was actually carrying that out dated commando garbage known as hydroshoks. Federal makes better ammo then that these days, yet continues to sell it because mall ninjas keep buying it up thinking it's great ammo because of the name.

    Officer charged in shooting

The officer who shot the dog has been charged with two misdemeanors - discharging a weapon and animal cruelty and may face up to 9 months in prison.

The circumstances so far elucidated seem to suggest that the Officer may not have used good judgement in the situation.

I read this whole thread looking for an issue with the type ammo being used.
