Ya that was a crazy story to hear, and I never realized how close that was to where I live!

We had several people get arrested over here for burglary after that. Most of them were meth heads.

Had a bad guy neighbor walk over, didn't knock or announce his presensce - my Chow dog did, from inside the living room in her crate. I never cease to be amazed by her and I trust her judgement on these things more than she'll ever know!
Gun first, 911 second, yelling is optional. I really prefer not to announce my position, besides I don't feel that a female yelling has as much effect as a man's voice.

I always answer the door armed and I always carry even at home. Too many home invasions in my state recently - some ending in fatalities. Mercer Island is quite safe, thanks to the large Israeli population here. A few months ago, 2 felons were detained by armed citizens at a gas station. I only knew about it since it was mentioned in the city council meeting. Nothing showed up in the news. Of course some council members expressed concern over this.
