New York off-duty detective shoots gun out of robber's hands

    http://www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/10/27/...ex.html?hpt=T2

Good outcome, but...how many think she was aiming for his hands? That can't be shooting doctrine for NYPD or any professional police dept. Or were these COM attempts that just missed?

What's the advantages of having a revolver in this role? Other than they are safe and reliable, I guess, their shot capacity is limited....

I never bought Roy Rogers shooting guns out of hands, and I'm not buying that this was intentional.

In Tx as soon as he pulls a gun and says this is a robbery give me all your money or I will kill you, blam blam blam blam blam blam, thru the sheet, behing my back under my right lag, bent over shooting between my legs,it don't matter the perp would be dead and the Grand Jury would no bill self defense, the only reason she shot the gun out of his hand is because she shot where she was looking, the door lock was a round that completely missed, she is lucky he wasn't a better shot or she very likely would be dead, and there are several shootings where people were shot in the arms and hands because they were extended over COM in a 2 handed gun stance

Mayor Bloomberg has probably ordered all NY cops to do the Roy Rogers thing.
He's right up there with Mayor Daley when it comes to asshat of the year.

You can count that as 5 or 6 misses.............2 hands and the door handle locking him in.............and Santa followed him home to make the arrest.......please.
Not discounting her absolute bravery...........but no one can take that shooting seriously........just ask Jim Cirillo......he's laughing.

I'm glad that the officer came out on top, but "stunning marksmanship"?...Not!

That is exactly what I told my wife. No way she was trying to do that.

Pretty sure the training for responding with deadly force does not include anything about "shooting the gun out of the BG's hand".

Only hope we don't get other LEOs trying to do the same trick shot so that they can make detective.

    Glad everything ended well.
We're all in favor of reducing violent crime. It's just that pro-gunners have a method that is proven effective. Anti-gunners don't.

While I agree that it probably wasn't intentional... and the PR Dep't for the LE in NYC is probably hyping it up... There is a possibility she's a cowboy action shooter, who does this stuff allla time.... in competition...

    Nah...probably not...

She's lucky she's alive. And the bad deal is some whacko might just think he's a "gunslinger" and try to prove "she ain't all dat."
    Rats!
    It could be worse!
    I suppose

Okay, now for the big, important issue here . . . who pays for the doorknob? I bet she and that fine city don't!

Hey, Mayor B! How about chipping in here.
