I've actually thought about this scenario before while getting my hair cut. That apron they put on you would be perfect cover to draw and ready a firearm.

Knowing the frequent inaccuracies of the media, I hesitate to comment, but if the chronology of events is accurately portrayed, I'd say the officer was very lucky.

Different "take" on the same incident...

She shot the lock on the door? she shot the gun outta his hand...

    NY Daily News story

    Just call her "Calamity JONES"
    Rats!
    It could be worse!
    I suppose

The second version is considerably different and more plausible than the first.

the stories pretty much sound the same. the 2nd just has more detail... however they make it sound like she purposefully shot hit hand and locked the door when it is more likely because of missing the target...

"I can't come to grips with it," said Cheryl Cox, whose 19-year-old son, Winston Cox, the youngest of her eight kids, was arrested about 1 a.m. on Monday after more than 30 hours on the run.

"I just thank God that the person involved did not get hurt - that he didn't hurt anybody."
Well, at least she isn't going on about how her boy is a good boy and wouldn't hurt a soul.

    I would disagree.
The first story describes the officer rising from her chair, identifying herself as LE, ordering the BG to drop his gun and when he fires on her she draws her gun and returns fire.

The second story describes her drawing her gun aiming at the BG, then identifying herself as LE and ordering him to drop his gun and returning fire after he fires.

I personally, see a considerable difference between the two.

Got that right hogdaddy. I've been surprised at just how many other officers I know who DON'T carry off duty. Some say they don't want to feel obligated to respond it something bad happens - I try to explain that the "something bad" might be happening to them or their loved ones personally. Some just don't get it.

If the mother couldn't come to grips with the other 4 or 5 felonies her son had been arrested for, she probably never will understand and will continue to enable her criminal son. At least this time he will probably be in jail for a while, right?
Maybe if NYC would actually enforce some of their laws and not let violent criminals out on parole, there would be less gun crime and they could lay off their push for gun control.

My barber is better armed than I am, I would not recommend that a BG try robbing him.
