    lets take it a step further...not only did she compromise her own safety that night but also compromised the business property...she knew there were kids up to no good outside and they taunted her...they could very well have been waiting for her to open the door to leave and rushed her inside the building...injuring her and turning your business into a crime scene...

    she needs to be instructed that she has to think more responsibly for herself and the business she works for...it may sound cold but its a fact of life...

    i would be more inclined to believe she didnt call the police out of fear than stupidity...she wants to believe she an take care of herself and is fearful of retaliation if she contacts the police and they hassle the guys outside...shes not tough...shes afraid...

    Do what you can to advise her. But if she continues to remain headstrong, let her be. She will learn it one way or another. And she will have no one to blame but herself. Again, you can only do so much for certain people like her.

    She won't recognize what she doesn't see, so there is no use in preaching to her, as it would be a waste of time, IMO. Let her life happen, and if she survives and wants advice, she will seek you out. The sad thing is, she may not survive, but that's life.

    I think she may be confusing her abilities with those of her father.

    It's hard to add anything to the above, but this says something:

    One of my female employees
    If she is your employee you can require a behavior change as a term of employment. That might not fix her thinking, but it might fix her behavior.

    Personally I prefer;

    Tell a man that there are 300 billion stars in the universe, and he'll believe you... Tell him that a bench has wet paint upon it and he'll have to touch it to be sure."

    I can't find a source, but I thought it is credited to Carl Sagan.

    I would try to find a few videos on you tube and have her see how fast a situation can go bad.

    BikerRN really does say it all - it's the consequences of her choices and her actions that will determine the life she experiences.

    Wow! Thank you for all the great replies. I did show her a couple of the videos and she had no idea things could happen that fast. Next I am going to show her some of the violent ones just to show her that the BG is not messing around and an attack is fierce and brutal and she would not stand a chance unarmed. I showed her the crime map of our business area for the last month and she didn't think it was very bad. Then I showed her the same map for the last 12 months and she about wet her pants. Again, she had no idea. Now she's open to protecting herself and at the very least being more aware. She commented that security cameras would be a good deterant and I let her know how naive she is. I just said with a security camera we would only know what happened after the fact; showed her some of those videos too. She'll get it, slowly, but she'll get it. Also, per your recommendations I have changed the business policies to protect us all: Leave the building in groups. You can't leave the building by yourself if you're the last person here but need to call someone to meet you in the parking lot to escort you out, etc. Awesome feedback, thanks.

    In several downtown buildings in which I have worked, Building Security (24 HR) would escort folks to their cars. Not perfect, but an improvement.
