While I admire your determination, there are many things involved.
Even if cleared by a local jury of your peers on the action you mention, you may still face a federal civil rights or civil trial.
While a family of marksmen and a supply of ammo are valuable assets, there is more to it than that. The possibility of assaults, lethal or otherwise, at any time you and/or your family are out and about doing your normal activities. Periodic drive by shootings, days or even weeks apart, both when you are home and when only the family is home. The physical and mental strain of of the whole family being constantly prepared for shots or molotovs through the windows or a home invasion. The constant threat of breakins, vandalism or arson whenever you all leave the house, not to mention ambush on your return. Vandalism of your vehicles when parked publicly.
As I said, no flame, just some points to consider.
All good points and in reality, I'm sure I would take the higher road for my family's sake. But I really do feel that until everyone takes the "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more!" line, we as a society are doomed to cower in fear of the lawless. What really peeves me is the fact that our <sarc>"Leaders"</sarc> seem to want to push this on all of us. Criminalizing self defense and portraying thugs and killers as victims.

    I agree.
If there were a chance for that kind of stand, I think that the kind of people in Montana, Idaho and like places would be the ones that would band together and could pull it off, if the "Leaders" would stay out of it.

Well, I guess we'd find out how the silverado I drive stands up to hitting a gangbanger

Better idea. Drop those guys of on a random weekend nigh 15 blocks south of me in the Bronx. I think there Gangsta gestures might get some attention real quick. And not the police.

I am done hearing about gangs running rampant and the police doing nothing. My rural area doesn't have gang problems yet. Just stupid people issues(like everywhere else). But, if i ever witnessed 12 'bangers brandishing in my little home town, there would be a trial shortly there after. I'm sure my fellow rednecks that would be my jury would see it as justifiable homicide.

400 members? My wife and 3 kids are all crack shots and 400 wouldn't even put a small dent in my ammo supply. Bring it on!

The worst part of such a scenario is the aftermath of such an encounter. You may get one of them (speed bump style), but the rest of your days in that town will require your head to be on a swivel...not safe for the family either.

12 people standing around with baseball bat's in a small town, they stand out like sore thumbs, I've already evaded them, either turned off already or blew the light.

Now the side of me that they just pissed off would want to do some recon to identify them and the leaders of the gang then get my friend Lapua and go send them to the promised land. I'd be legal too because the terrorist hunting permit on my bumper is still valid!

The nucleus of such groups (here) are kids from the city, usually brought in by parents wanting to get away from crime.

Punks tried to start a gang in Ketchikan Alaska about 10 years back. The fathers, uncles, etc started walking around and having a word with anyone standing around, acting tough. No more gangs. Very quickly.

A few years before that in, IIRC, Klawock, a city kid with a single mother started trying to get gang activity going. A bunch of the neighbors went over to their house, in mass, and told them that, while the community welcomed peaceful newcomers, the kid should straighten up or he was not likely to survive. They moved out instead of cleaning up their act. IIRC, they went to Anchorage, which is being over run by liberals and leftoids, last I heard.

Maybe related, maybe not: a kid with a martial arts back ground had a bunch of people show up at his place, expressing dissatisfaction with him. He climbed out the back window. (Anchorage.) He had to be from the city as any local kid would have shot them. I never heard the back story on that.

I actually had a small group of gang members try to stop me in a similar manner once. (After an initial confrontation, I tried to leave.)

One bounced off my windshield and another one bounced off the left front quarter panel. They called the cops before I did; because I ran for my life and they had to call an ambulence. (No cell phones in the 70's)

Legally: I was arrested and I was sued. (Charges was dropped and I won the civil case.)
Personally: I faced retalitory threats and reprecussions for several more years. (Finally moving out of state)

The "only" thing I would do different today is call 911 on my cell phone right after the incident.

Insane Clown Posse is a rap group (and a really bad one at that). I doubt the gang would actually call themselves this if they're fans of the group. Fans of the Insane Clown Posse call themselves Juggalos. It's quite likely that this "gang" is similar to the gangs of goths or wannabe vampires that "overrun" small towns everywhere. They're nothing but outsiders looking for some form of group membership anywhere they can get it. They're usually just misunderstood youth trying to figure out their place in the world and are often the least likely to really be troublemakers. I really doubt that these kids are any real threat.

As others have said, five murders in a small town would certainly have caused an uproar so I find it odd that you hadn't heard about it before. I also doubt that they were standing around in the street brandishing weapons at bystanders. This sounds like the type of thing that old women embellish as part of a scare story. Sure, they probably saw the group of kids standing around on the street corner and they may have been "up to no good" like smoking or roughhousing. Due to the kids' different clothes and possibly evil clown makeup (if they're really Juggalos) the ladies got scared. The next thing you know, they're imagining (and reporting to the police) that they saw all sorts of dangerous things.

As a former small town teen who often had the cops called on his group of friends because they looked different (even though we were actually the good kids in town - we didn't drink, do drugs, or vandalize anything), I'm just saying that I know how things get embellished by some people. My friends and I were part of a "dangerous street gang" in high school. Basically, we were into the grunge/indie rock scene instead of rodeos, hunting, fishing, and country music so when people saw us standing around downtown we caught attention. I had some lady swear to the cops that she saw me attacking random people on the street. I still have no idea where she got this idea, but luckily the drug store we were hanging out in front of had security cameras in front (a rarity in small towns) that showed nothing of the sort actually occurred. Still, the rumors and suspicions spread through the town.

Am I saying it's impossible that this group is violent? No. I'm just saying it's unlikely that you would just now be finding out about it if it were the case.

Man that is rough, getting hit by the old they look different hence must be bad stick. That’s kind of funny to think the Grunge/Indi rock group would be a towns dangerous gang. I don’t think you guys would be a very big blip on the police radar screens around hear.

If you miss, throw in reverse and try again.

I once came up on a hostile crowd blocking the street of about 70-80 people. They would beat drivers with baseball bats and/or throw rocks and some people were killed, others hospitalized. I was the only car coming down the street.... and they were anxious of my approach.

I put my foot on the floor....... and at about 70 mph they realized I couldn't hit the brakes and stop even if I had wanted to .... (they almost waited too long to come to that realization), and they scattered like flies to get out of the way. No was hit, but I'm sure a few people had to change their pants afterwards.

It's really dumb to stand in front of a 4000 lb vehicle with 300 hp under the hood and try to "bluff".

Google them folks. They do call themselves this name or they have been referred to by that name. Just one link for one murder.

As far as finding myself in the situation described, oh well, the pistol would come out and be shown to persuade them to just leave me and mine alone pure and simple.
