    Crime time

This is a odd one. Don't know where to put it.. here or home defense...

I live on an acreage. Bordered by a road on the north and the east. I "walk" my dogs, rather than just let them out to do their thing. Live too close to public hunting grounds and they like to roam... so one is on a leash and the other won't go far.

As I was taking them out before bed last night (near midnight), a large yellow 1980's sedan (Crown Vic or big Merc, probably a decommissioned taxi) drove by very slow. I know by sight, most of the cars that travel my road from around here, and have not seen this one before, suspicious.

Since it's close to "goodie day," this drive by has me on a bit higher alert. I double checked all my doors and made sure they were locked. I know the dogs will alarm if anyone even just idles too long at the stop sign on the corner, so I'm pretty sure I'll have some warning if something is going on.

I have reported the vehicle description, as best I could, to the Sheriff's office. Not much more I can do...

    or is there,

    your thoughts?

How close are your neighbors? Have you alerted them or asked them if they have seen the vehicle before?

Hmm well you already alerted the Sheriff's office, are they going to do any extra patrols in the area? I would stay alert, keep checking all your doors and windows to ensure they are locked. Probably not much else to do besides staying in your castle prepared to defend if need be...

Oakchas - You might just call your neighbors to wish them a Merry Christmas, and casually inquire if they had any friends visiting, since you saw a strange car. Then let that conversation take its course.

I love it when people have their eyes and ears open, as you clearly do.

That'd be a good, unobtrusive way to get their awareness raised, and/or at least confirm mine, thanks gasmitty!

Or was that you, driving by to say hi?

I'd rather be cautious than dead. Keep your eyes and ears open, your on the right track already.

The difference between (what some call) paranoia and preparedness often only becomes clear when bad stuff happens........

A small amount of paranoia is not a bad thing.

I was called paranoid once. Now it makes for a good story (I wasnt). If something feels sketchy, it usually is. Good SA and as has been suggested and has been mentioned in other threads, engage your neighbors and get the communities SA up. It will benefit you all. Complacency kills........
