True, you never know what the outcome will be regardless of your action or inaction, but I don't want to die over someone else's money. If he's got the drop on me, there's not a lot I can do at that point and he's welcome to the cash.
The wisdom or lack thereof in drawing against the drop is another discussion.
I took the OPs question to be asking whether or not the robber's apparent courtesy shown while pointing his gun at my brisket would influence any of my decisions at that point. I'm inclined to think not.

Just be as polite as you can after you lace him. " I am sorry I shot you scum bag. Can I get you anything while we wait for the police & ambulance? "

I'm not a mind reader. You pull a gun on me I'm going to have to believe you intend to use it.

BTK, Dennis Rader... a serial killer ; often confronted his victims that it was a robbery and that he was "sorry" ... he said himself it was specifically to get them to be more comfortable and cooperative ... that is right up until he tied them up, saying he had to do that so he had time to get away. Then... he began torturing them, strangling them until they went unconscious, assaulting them, letting them come back to, to do it again and again and again.

    Yell... "sorry" ... doesn't buy a thing.

I still remember the guy who had the knife on me, saying he was sorry..... I was only sorry I didn't have a gun on me at the time.

I don't care what he said or how the public dubbed him the "Polite Robber". Pointing a gun at someone isn't polite to me. I certainly wouldn't have taken what he said as an act of kindness; he made a choice and I would act accordingly to protect myself.
My thing is, yea he was polite and didnt seem like he was going to shoot anybody BUT how do you know that. You never know what people are thinking. What if the employee would have handed him the money and then the robber said ok thanks for the money and BANG! TRUST NOONE.
Isn't it sad when you are the one being vitimized, and you are made to feel as though ,if you have no compassion for the low-life pointing a pistol at you, you are somehow worse than they are.

Don't point a gun at anything you do not want to shoot! If he's pointing it at me, I get the message!
