I believe the last thing the BG hears would be my beretta clicking off safe. After I call it in, I call my lawyer.

Some forum members may be that good. My CC is for self defense at distances less than say 20-30 ft and if that is not the case, I will not risk my life or that of my wife or that of the rest of the employees, despite the horrible nature of the events that just occurred.
    +1 on that

What was the line in "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly"? When you can shoot, shoot. Don't talk.

If you're Samuel Jackson, you might say -

"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you. And I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall lay my vengeance upon them. "

-Hold it right there. Do not move. If you make any sudden moves, I will be forced to shoot you. Do you understand?
-Now slowly turn around until I tell you to stop.
-Slowly raise both your hands and slowly drop your weapon.
-Slowly get on your knees and stomach. Spread your arms and feet. Hands facing upward.
-Turn your head to the side facing away from me.
-Stay there and do not move.
-Ambulance services are on their way (if he/she needs medical attention).

By law I'm not required to warn him. So I wouldn't say anything. But, I'd be wary of firing if his weapon is pointed at someone else. I might have to say something to get him off them and maybe give them a chance to arm as well. I never want to get an innocent killed.

What I was stating earlier is what I would say if I did find an intruder at night and I have my pistol drawn. All those movie lines, you can forget it, as they are out of touch with reality. They might even provoke him/her to do something. I keep it professional.

‘Old habits die hard’… I’ve often wondered about that. As a former peace officer, and anytime I would have to draw my service revolver, I use to yell out ‘freeze!’ follow by my agency name. Frankly, that worries me because my autonomic skills are associated with the many times that I had to do that. Though I believe I could forestall the latter, the preparatory command may likely come out.

Back in my day, political correctness wasn’t anywhere near what it is today, so drawing down on a borderline suspect was common.

Outside of personal insults, which I have almost always avoided, I've been more interested in results than protocol.
